Upcoming hysterectomy 5/10: Feeling sick

Hi all. My hysterectomy is booked for Tuesday. The last few days I have been feeling really sick. I'm not prone to sickness so I don't know if I have a bug or I'm wondering if this could be caused by stress of knowing my ops due. I am quite nervous about it. Has anyone else experienced this pre op?

Mine is on Monday. I've been feeling a little bit off. I think I might be overly worried because I work at a pharmacy and just about everyone I'm in contact with has something or other. And I can't take any vitamins or minerals supplements before surgery. Ive been washing my hands a ton! I guess if I'm sick or have a fever I'll call the surgeon.

Re: Feeling sick

Hi Zest -

Being very nervous for this surgery is quite normal. Feeling sick could be just stress and nerves - that would not be unusual. You can call the doctor, especially if you really feel like you are getting sick. Do not take any OTC meds (vitamins, herbs, teas, etc.) without approval. You should try to relax, rest, and drink lots of water. Try to keep yourself busy to take your mind off your surgery. Or distract yourself with favorite DVDs.

If you wait until Tuesday, let them know how you feel. They will evaluate you at that time and make a surgery day decision.

I hope you feel better soon.

Re: Feeling sick

I know, it's hard not to think about it isn't it. I'm also getting bouts of feeling hot and wondering if the menopause is starting the week before my op ( typical!). Yes you're right, best to let them know before your op. Best of luck for Monday, the day before me. I'll look forward to hearing how you get on. X

Re: Feeling sick

Thanks mares tail.
Yes I will try to drink plenty of water and try to keep my mind occupied. Apart from all of this I do feel fine . Guess I'm just a big nervous baby, haha. Thanks for your advice, it's great to hear from people that have been through the same. X
