Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 08-Jun 14,2020

If your hysterectomy was between Jun 08-Jun 14,2020 this is the place to post your progress during your hysterectomy recovery.

If you have a question about your hysterectomy recovery, please start a new thread to receive answers and support for your concerns instead of including the question in your update! There is information on how to start a new thread in this link: New Here? or you can use this link: Post a New Topic in the Post-Op forum.

Post how you are doing here when you are home and well enough to sit a few minutes at your computer.

We hope you are recovering well with plenty of rest and water and a bit of walking. Don't forget to pamper the princess!

How to use the Recovery Progress Reports thread:

  • 1. This thread is for the purpose of sharing updates on your recovery as you heal from your hysterectomy.

  • 2. Generally, ONE or TWO posts on this thread per member/per day is adequate to share your daily progress and to share encouragement with your surgery week Sisters.

  • 3. Remember to start a new thread on the Post-Op message board to ask your questions.

  • 4. The Progress Report threads now begin in our special forum for all Hysterectomy Recovery Reports and will remain there for you to always find your discussion.
  • 5. Remember all the love and support you got here as a pre-op member? Now it's YOUR turn to give back to the women in the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support forum. Extend your hand and your hugs in replies to our pre-op ladies in waiting. This will complete our circle of women helping women!
  • 6. You can also share support and experiences with post-op members in all phases of recovery in the Post-Op Hysterectomy Support forum by replying on the new threads they create.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 08-Jun 14,2020

Princesses to your Recovery Progress Report thread and the other side,

This is your thread for sharing with and caring for your kind sisters and caring for yourself. It will be as helpful as you make it. You can compare experiences, share progress, vent frustrations, ask questions and just generally find understanding.

I am your SunshineSister. I remember how good it felt to have my surgery over. I am here to say “you aren’t alone” and to share my personal experiences and the things I have learned other sisters. I had my dvTH/BSO with rectocele and cystocele repairs on 1/16/14 and had a slow but in complicated recovery.

Recovery is different for everyone and there is No Normal. We will have similarities to share. Initial recovery may take 6-12 weeks and full healing could be 1 year. You know your own body so please listen to it. Heed any warning and go slow.

Make sure your profile has the correct surgery type, this is helpful as some answers to questions depend on this. Also while you are editing, where you are in this wide world can be fun.

So some Sisterly advice:
-Be kind to yourself and listen to your body.
-Follow your Dr’s orders and limitations.
-Accept help from family and friends. You just had MAJOR SURGERY.
-Drink lots of water and eat healthy tummy friendly foods.
-Rest, Rest, Rest, and Rest
-walk a little each hour that you are awake (to the bathroom, to get a cup of tea or glass of water)

Feel free to ask questions about anything that comes up or if you just need a cyber (((hug))) ASK

This site has some great articles so explore while doing some of that resting. You could start at the top of the screen in grey letters. The big blue bar helps with info also, including Hysterectomy check points(I really learned and enjoyed this). It let me know what to expect as I progressed in my healing.

Don’t forget the post op forum to ask questions of sisters farther along in their recovery who might have had a similar issue. I will definitely let you know when this is a good idea.

So as you begin your healing remember you just had MAJOR SURGERY. You have ONE CHANCE to get this right. Listen to your body and take care of you. This is your main task for the next few weeks. We are here to help! See you when you are ready to post. You have my prayers and good thought for your recovery.

Lots of Gentle Hugs,
Anndy

Home now from hysterectomy yesterday.
I had a bad night and morning. Crying for no reason. Restlessness. Dizziness. Anxiety.

At discharge this afternoon they gave me the rundown on OxyContin. Guess what possible side effects are!?!?!?

lbutter,

To your RecoveryProgressReport thread. Glad you found out the cause of your stress. Did they give you a different med? Many sisters are able to switch to Extra Strength OTC pain meds fairly quickly so don’t despair. You don’t mention what type of Hyst you had. And a question is the l of your name a upper case i or a lower case L, just wondering.

Hope the dizziness has reduced so you feel safe to walk. can be important to help the circulation in your lower ab anD reduce swelling. Lot of water is really good also.

Lots of gentle Hugs,
Anndy

All Done😁. Post Op 12 hours

Hello! I am 12 hours post op from Supracervical hysterectomy with Sacrocolpopexy, TOT sling, and Rectocele repair. I feel just a bit worse than yesterday, but that could be thanks to Morphine. I have a Foley catheter, which is the most annoying. I have to meditate every so often to relax and let it flow . I have four stab wounds on my belly for the uterus and lift part and two stab wounds on both sides of my groin for the bladder sling. All are glued Nothing to show for the rectal repair. I am having some vaginal bleeding even with the packing. Haven’t had blood come out of there in over 10 years!!! Forgot how it felt.I have two IV’s, not sure why. I am still on Clear Liquids and quite hungry. Thinking it is because of my history of post op nausea and vomiting. At this point, sure glad I brought my gf crackers and banana.. Possibly later I am told I can eat.
I was really anxious about this surgery, really anxious. But, it is not so bad so far. The shoulder and neck pain is real and weird. My belly is sore and splinting is a requirement with movement, my rectal area hurts a bunch, but all lesss than I expected for the operative day.
Thinking they will start to feed me because I won’t take oral meds until I get food in my belly. My stomach IS NOT my friend.
I am really glad to be on the other side of this very m

Post Op Recovery

Hi Ladies,

Surgery was done yesterday and they ended up doing everything Laparoscopic. I arrived at 6:15am and was in my overnight room by 11am. Went to sleep before they even wheeled me to the OR.

Not much sleep last night due to getting medicine and vitals taken every few hours.

Overall the pain hasn’t been bad! I definitely recommend staying ahead of the pain, as I asked them to lower the dose (don’t like taking narcotics) and then was chasing it when needed.

Getting ready to be discharged soon!

Also, THE ABDOMINAL BINDER IS A MUST HAVE!!!!! Helps with sleeping and getting up/down.

Hope all of my other hystersisters are doing well!!

Ladies and Janet420,

Glad to have you with us on the Recovery Progress Report thread. Hope they let you start solid food soon. I too remember really being hungry. But did have some issues finding things I could eat so I was glad to get home to my oatmeal with fruit soup. Of course I also made stewed prunes (I had posterior repairs also) I was so afraid of getting constipated. So eat lots of fruit. and drink lots of water When do you go home?

Butter, how are you doing? I hope you are able to rest lots. Have they come up with a med you can take?

Gentle Sister hugs to you both,
Anndy

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 08-Jun 14,2020

Lucydaphe,

Glad to have you join us. A kind hostess moved your post to our Recovery Progress Report thread for you. Hope you are reading this from home! I am sure you will rest better there.

A word to all of you. Sometimes these first couple of days you feel better than you actually are, the anesthesia and hospital pain meds stay with you for a few days. So stay slow with your gentle walking eat tummy friendly food that is high in fiber. I usually suggest eating the types of foods you like after a flu. Your digestion has been disrupted and needs to be gentled back to working. Rest and nap as much as you. Let others do things that need to be done. Please remember this was MAJOR SURGERY. Give your body a chance to heal well, this could help with your future health.

Gentle Hugs,
Anndy

20 hours post op and doing well!

[Good morning hystersisters! 2o hours post op!
Couldn’t ask for a smoother experience! I was really relaxed going in- think hubby and son were more nervous than me! Was asleep before I left pre op! Don’t even remember saying goodbye to my hunny! Woke up with no side effects from the anesthesia and very little discomfort. No shoulder pain at all! Surgery about an hour and a half- woke up a bit disoriented(,felt like I was coming out of a dream then realized where I was. There for about two hours and up to my room with a view! Walked few laps around the floor to get things moving. Asked for the Cath out right away and got the bladder moving. Tough at first . Had to squeeze the muscles 2-3 times to fully relieve myself. They increased the IV causing me to pee every thirty minutes until I was flowing appropriately then turned it off to let me sleep. One dose of Percocet and them Motrin the rest of the time.
Sore ( like moderate period cramps) but no extreme pain. - incisions don!t hurt. Doc kept me overnight ( routine for him.) headed home today. Sore and fatigued today- Lots of resting but all in all a very pleasant experience as far as surgeries go! Blessings to all of us as we continue on our journey to wellness!

:hello Ladies & Muga7257,

Nice to have you join us and to hear how well things are going. I hope you have read some of my posts and taken to heart my cautions. I know when you feel good it is hard to go slow. But please do. Even when you do well it is still Major Surgery and your body has lots of healing to do. Rest is very important.

To all of you don’t forget to keep lots of water, healthy tummy friendly foods and most important

Sister hugs to all
