Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 18-May 24,2020
Had my hysterectomy yesterday morning (Wed 5/20). Surgery went well. I stayed at the hospital one night. I was feeling pretty good, ate lunch. When dinner came I got nauseous and threw up! Poor husband.. I'm sure that wasn't super appetizing. Haha! But it was just that once, so I'm glad it hasn't happened again. I have been just doing ibuprofen and tylenol and gabapentin for pain. Really don't like percocet.. it makes me itchy. I am also feeling nervous for a bowel movement. Been sitting on the toilet a few times to try. Taken stool softeners and miralax. Not in tons of pain, just can feel my belly and also having gas pains in my shoulders.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 18-May 24,2020
Hi everyone! I'm back at home. I had my abdominal hysterectomy on the 19th went home on the 21st. That first night was really rough trying to get my pain under control, I was crying like a baby and my pain tolerance is fairly high. I have had one c-section. I had some wonderful nurses advocating for me and we finally got it under control and I'm just trying to stay on top of it. The surgery itself went well. I had an Essure that was hanging out of my tube that freaked everyone out. I'm so glad to have those things out of my body! That Netflix documentary really did a number on me. I am moving around well, my husband just made me put on some compression stockings. I have Norco and Motrin to alternate. I feel pretty dang good now and I hope to continue to do so.

This morning is much better. Took a hot bath last night didn't stay in the tub very long. Finally got some sleep last night. I had my bowl movement this morning!! I'm soo happy for that finally. Pain is bearable now but gas is still pretty bad. Just glad that poop is out for now lol.

Amy7907, Latasha77, Tbarlow, DebiB80 and CrystalGems! I'm glad y'all have found your Recovery Thread!
Since several of you mention the pain, do take your meds (whatever they may be) on schedule. This is not the time to play Wonder Woman and work through the pain - you rest better when you're in less pain, and rest is what's needed for healing. What you'll read around here is stay on top of / ahead of the pain. Once it gets the upper hand, it is harder to get back under control. I tried to get off the stronger stuff on Day 4, but by early afternoon I was walking hunched over. Back on it I went, and it was such a relief! I got off the narcotics on Day 8 and then alternated between acetaminophen and prescription ibuprofen. If you need stronger meds for a longer period of time, it's okay! Some of you had additional work done.

Now where else can you talk about how good it feels to finally empty the bowels after surgery?! We all understand!
Check your discharge papers for bathing, though - baths are usually on the "Don't" list until you're cleared by your doctor. Sitting in bath water increases the risk of bacteria contaminating the raw wound of the vaginal cuff, and you don't want that to get infected. As we're learning with COVID-19, it doesn't take much exposure.

Congrats Latasha! I sure wish mine would work. I feel so “full,” and I want to go, but I am absolutely terrified that I will tear the vaginal cuff if I have a BM. I’m only having very light pink spotting, which I’m told is normal, but I spotted after passing gas yesterday. It makes me fear that a BM will split everything wide open

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 18-May 24,2020
It's a beautiful day here in Mississippi and my pain level is low as of now. Making sure I stay on top of it and keep it under control. I walked to the mailbox and back in the house just to get some sun. That felt really good glowing and shining on my face. Brighter days are ahead and my new life will soon begin. I see recovery and cry tears of joy...

3 days post op.. finally had a BM. I did have a little spotting with it, probably from having to push a little. It feels good to have gone. Pain is doing ok. Just feel my belly, not painful just can feel it. How are you all sleeping? I slept ok last night. Hoping my recovery keeps going well.

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates May 18-May 24,2020
Hi ladies. My surgery was Wednesday the 20th. My pain is more like a soreness. I’m having a hard time sleeping. I get about 45 minutes with vivid dreaming and then wake up. I don’t think Im ready to attempt a shower yet. They put a nausea patch on me in recovery because I was nonstop vomiting, well yesterday I woke with blurred vision so I removed it last night and things are improving. Husband asked if I wanted to shower today but I just don't feel like It yet. I’m doing Motrin and Tylenol round the clock for now.
