malignant adnexal neoplasm

I had my hysterectomy 3 years ago. I only kept my ovaries because they were still functioning. I sent in for yearly exam earlier this week, and she is sending me for an ultrasound. This morning I received an email for my patient portal if a recap of my appointment early in the week. It says they are sending me for a malignant adnexal neoplasm ultrasound. Should I be concerned? Has anyone else dealt with something like this?

I have occasionally have pain near the area she is concerned with. While doing the exam it was super tender and painful.

Re: malignant adnexal neoplasm

I don't have any firsthand experience on this particular issue but wanted to send some hugs and advice not to panic. It sounds like your doctor is being thorough by following up on something she noticed during your exam. As for the language, think more along the lines of rule out malignant adnexal neoplasm, as the doc is required to have a supporting reason to order the exam. The odds are in your favor this is something perfectly benign, and benign things still can cause discomfort and other issues. Fingers crossed and calming hugs sent!
