CervCa: Planned hysterectomy after next baby

Hi, New to the forum and searching for some advice since my oncologist is an amazing doctor but a not so great communicator. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer (adenocarcinoma stage 1a1) in February, had a LEEP in March and benign (thank god!) nasal tumor removed in April. My oncologist said that if my tests keep coming back clear it is okay to wait and have another baby before doing a hysterectomy.
I have a 14 month old now and after the stress of the surgeries this year we're just not quite ready to start trying again but are feeling a bit of pressure because of my health issues.
What I'm wondering is if in this scenario it is better to do a planned c-section/hysterectomy once we do have our next baby or is it better to have the baby and then schedule the hysterectomy after I've healed from childbirth? Does anyone have experience in either scenario? There is just not much about it on Google!!

Hi, s0610770. My hysterectomy came after I was done having kids, so I don't have any similar experience to share. But I did want to send some well-wishes and supportive thoughts your way.

Medically, either of those options should be workable. In your shoes I would probably choose to have it all done at delivery, but I would want to ask my doctor about the plan for how that would work, including whether any of the medications/pain meds prescribed for after surgery would interfere with getting breastfeeding established. You would want to make sure you have adequate help lined up for caring for your newborn and older child while you recover.

Do you have a regular ob that you would be seeing for a future pregnancy, or perhaps a high-risk OB? If so, you might schedule a preconception visit with them to discuss your future pregnancy, what you can do to prepare, and the pros and cons of how to time your hysterectomy afterwards. Hopefully you'll be able to find someone equally amazing but with the communication skills as well. I've got my fingers crossed for you!
