lavh husband taken 8 days leave

I had a TAH on 1-31-06 and was home on 2-2-06. My mom was home with me the first day I was home and after that I was on my own.

My DH only works 5 miles from the house so if I did have any problems he could have come home.

My DS is 13 and was already in charge of helping with laundry, dishes, garbage, so things went very smooth for me during my recovery.

It is hard to say how long you need your DH home as we all recover differently from the surgery. Me personally I did not want anyone hoovering over me to see how I am doing. When I was home alone, I would get up to go to the bathroom, get a new water bottle, etc. I knew what I was allowed to do and only did that.

I am currently 4-1/2 weeks post op and starting to take over the laundry a little more. My DS still has to take it down stairs for me and I fold it downstairs and then my DS or DH have to bring it upstairs for me.

Good luck with your surgery and recovery.

lavh husband taken 8 days leave

I had a LAVH also. My husband took off the day of my surgery and the day after.. ..our son had ACL knee surgery that day. I was fine and so was my son. I was only in the hospital for about 20 hrs after my surgery and the day I came home I walked downstairs to dinner, etc. The second day home I got my 16yr old daughter off to school (my hubby was at the hospital with son's surgery)then went back to bed for a rest. I got up for lunch and visited with my Dad who had come over for the day. I was not in much pain and switched from prescription pain med to tylenol that 2nd day. Barring any complications, you should be fine with the amount of time your hubby has off. Good luck.

lavh husband taken 8 days leave

My LAVH/BSO was on a Monday. I was home on Tuesday afternoon. I was alone starting Wednesday morning. Daughter went on school bus, and hubby to work. I enjoyed being home alone. I got more rest that way.

I took a shower on Wednesday alone, was nervous about it, but just held on real good. My mom yelled at me for showering while no one was here, but I felt pretty good, and more like a human being after the cleansing.

I have a 12 (going on 13) year old girl, and she's in school during the day and does help out some at night (if I get on her) She's not a cook, and neither is my husband so I've been cooking since the 4th day after surgery. Oh, he provided me with food (Arby's, Wendy's, Fazoli's) but..... if I wanted 'home cookin' I had to do it myself.

They do all the clean up tho, because making food just about knocks the energy out of me.

HI Donna,
Congrats. on your upcoming surgery and improved quality of life! I had a LAVH in January. I too was worried about being on my own and just how quicky I would recover. I came home from the hospital the afternoon after my surgery. I was sore and tired but no significant pain. My husband went back to work the day after I came home. Our office is only 15 min. from our home so he came home to fix me lunch and was available if I needed him. I did fine and now at 5 weeks post op I actually forget I had surgery. We have 5 children and I put them all to work! They were terrific help even if they did grumble at times. I pray this surgery is as positive and life changing as mine was. I just feel sooooo good now! God's blessings and please keep us posted.
