are there any tests, xrays that can diagnose endometriosis? when my doc looked at my ultrasound, she said that i had something "filmy" on my ovaries, but she will not know what it is exactly until the surgery. i'm having the hysterectomy for other reasons, so this was new to me. i guess what i'm asking is, how do you find out you have endometriosis?
thanks.

Laproscopy, biopsy, ultrasound scans, barium enemas with x-ray, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging are all tools your doctor can use to diagnose endometriosis, along with certain blood tests that can detect markers for it. Endometriosis is caused by misplaced endometrial tissue. In my case, biopsy was used by my GYN to diagnose mine. Don't know if this helps, but hope so!

I had a laparoscopy to confirm the doctor's suspicions.

My gyn told me the only definitive way to dx is by laparoscopy (or actually being in there). They can suspect it from u/s, ct's, etc.. but until they actually go in the can't say for sure. Of course, I'm not the doc so I can only say what I've heard.
Good luck!

P.S. Why are you having your hyst?

I had a lap to confirm it. My doc said it was the only way to know for sure.

Well my Doc. told me the only way to really confirm if it is endomitriosis is to do a Laparoscopy (sorry about spelling) surgery because he said you can't confirl 100% by blod work or ultra sounds. He told me they don't shoe up and that people can have symptoms but can't be sure without the doc. seeing it etc........ I hope you surgery goes well and take good care of yourself!!!!!!!! angel_eyes

endometriosis

i'm having a hysterectomy because of dysfunctional uterine bleeding, also i've had a few abnormal paps that showed pre-cancerous cells (i've had 2 leeps) and it can always come back. i had ovarian cysts too, but my doc said she's gonna try really hard not to remove my ovaries, she just said i might have endometriosis. she only brought up the subject of possibly removing my ovaries because of the ultrasound showing filmy looking stuff on them. i wouldnt doubt it if i do have endometriosis! it seems like i've had problems down there ever since i started having periods at 11yrs old.

thanks for the replies,
stephanie
