Epiduaral--how long is it in?

For everyone with concerns about the epidural let me tell you it is not that bad. Personally I have never had one but will be having one with my TAH/BSO.

I have been a labor and delivery nurse and saw a bunch of epidurals done. If the epidural is done right you should be able to move your legs and not be completely paralyzed, just numb. (Of course, it's not a really good idea to walk because of the numbness.) Some people do have complete paralysis though. Nothing to worry about, just remember, if you're paralyzed you won't feel anything!

Also for those concerned, the "needle" is not left in place. The needle is only used to thread a very tiny catheter into the epidural space then the catheter is left there but not the needle. You won't even feel the catheter in.

This information is my experience only and is not intended as medical advice. Talk to your anesthesiologist about any anesthesia you receive.

Epiduaral--how long is it in?

This is something I am really afraid of. I am having a total abdominal..is it possible that I might also have this? Can they put you out first? I am terrifed of having a needle. My gyno told me that as soon as the catheter is out I am to start moving, even if I just sit up.

I'm also having abdominal surgery. Trust me, the epidural isn't even as bad as getting the IV. You'll be fine. Then the A-man can give you "happy drugs" so you really don't know and don't care what is going on.

epidural

I am having an epidural with sedation for my tvh on valentines
day Feb 14th. I have had an epidural before and I only felt a
small pinch with the needle, and I could move my legs they just
felt numb. I ask my DR if I could have an epidural for my tvh. When
she said sure, I was so happy. cause I would rather have an
epidural instead of general.
