Hi,

Welcome to hystersisters, a wonderful place to come for info and support for hysts. I had a tah/bso ( same as you ) over a year ago now. I was also scared about it all. I did very well in surgery and have recovered pretty well also. If you follow your dr's orders and take care of yourself, I'm sure that you'll do just fine too.

Here's a link to some pre op articles that might help you

Would you please go your profile and add your surgery date so that you'll be included in that day's best wishes list?

been there, done that

I know how you feel. I was told the same thing but I got to keep one ovary so I haven't had to make the hormone decision yet. I had to do this due to endometriosis and uterine fibroids. I wish I had done it 4 years ago. I am 3 1/2 months post-op and doing great. You found the right web site. Keep reading it will be a lifesaver.

total hyterectomy and bilateral saphingo-oophorectomy

Hi there!

I just had the same surgery TAH/BSO last Monday, week ago today, and I think I'm doing terrific! I did have problems with the morphine interthecal (spinal) they gave me but once we got that straightened out everything has been great. I'm weak and need alot of rest and get sore if I do too much but other than that it has not been too bad at all.

I was terrified going in, the waiting for the surgery is the hardest part believe me, but I managed to get through it. Keep busy, educate yourself as much as possible and visit this site often!

You will be fine, when is your surgery scheduled for? You'll have lots of support and well wishes from here!!!

I am 6 weeks post of from the exact procedure you will be having and I feel like a teenager again, only I am 38.

Having everything removed for me has been nothing short of amazing. I was having my period when they rolled me into surgery with cramps and the whole nine yards. When I went to the recovery room I had no pain.

Keep in mind everyone is different and so is pain tolerance levels, mine happens to be very high. I have not had to take any pain meds since getting home from the castle. My incision has healed beautifully and I have suffered no menopausal symptoms at all as I am on the climara patch.

Welcome to the site and I wish you as easy and pain free procedure and recovery as I have had.

total hyterectomy and bilateral saphingo-oophorectomy

I had the same thing in February 2000, and recovered very well. I can honestly say that there were 1 1/2 days of true discomfort, immediately after surgery. But after that, even before I left the hospital, I felt better, and basically continued to feel better & better as time went on. After 6 weeks, the DR told me to begin to resume the normal routine over the next 2 weeks, so the whole thing was a total of 8 weeks, except for a few things like heavy lifting, etc, which I took my time about. I was back on the hiking trail at the Delaware Water Gap by mid-May of that year!!!

Just be gentle to yourself, pace yourself, and follow the DR's directions. Don't be a heroine! I know women who went back to their routine too soon, and later on had complications.

I know how scary it is when you find out that this surgery has to be done. I'm sitting in the chair, as I write this, that I was sitting in when the DR called me and said "We have the D&C results....you need a hysterectomy right away." It was probably the worst moment of my life. But since then, my life has changed in many ways, and for the best...not just getting rid of an early cancer, but re-evaluating what's really important.

So hang in there and know that we'll all be rooting for you and praying for you!

Blessing.

Hi,
I know just how you feel. I was never so scared for my life than those few weeks waiting for the surgery. Fortunately I had a wonderful surgeon who had my total confidence. It turned out that there was no cancer but lots of painful stuff and I ended up with a SAH/BSO. The hardest part was the few hours waiting to go into surgery. After that, all the worry was gone and I was able to concentrate on getting better. It was nice to feel relaxed again. Now at 4 months I'm really believing I will be back to 100% soon. Just remember not to rush yourself back to doing a lot. The first 2 weeks I genuinely could not do anything but look after my own hygiene and do short walks around the house. If people ask what they can do to help tell them to bring food. My DH really appreciated this gift the most. After 2 weeks I could do a little more each week and I mean just a little more. Everyone recovers at their own pace I suppose. Mine was slow. I never expected to have to be so patient but I was very careful and had no complications. They say at 6-8 weeks you feel normal but with not a lot of stamina and the odd sensation, I was more like that at 11 weeks so don't worry if you aren't recovering as fast as you'd like. Who knows you might be a fast healer. Don't worry too much about pain, the morphine pump I had after surgery worked great and I only used it for about a day and then used tylenol 2 and 3. The pain really wasn't as bad as I had expected and hopefully you will find the same. A week after the surgery I wasn't using any pain killer at all. Good luck with the surgery and try not to worry too much. Keep coming back to the hystersisters for reassurance. It has been a real help for me both before and after the surgery although unlike you I have been rather shy about making any posts or replies. Hope this helps.
