DaVinci hysterectomy scheduled - will I have a catheter?

I forgot to ask my doctor if I will need a catheter. I am having a total hysterectomy with the Davinci method. Anyone had one who can answer that question?

I think a catheter is standard.

Any surgery where you will be "out of it" they automatically catherize much to my chagrin (le' sigh) but for most women it's not a problem at all, just kind of be aware of some stinging when they remove it and the possiblity of a bladder infection but they will keep an eye on that. HUGGGGGGGS

Had my Davinci last week. They put the catheter in and out during surgery. When I woke up in recovery I did not have one. They did tell me that was the plan. I also had a second IV put in place while out.

I think it depends on your doctor. I had my da vinci May 2nd. They put the catheter in while I was "out" and it was left in for two weeks. My doctor believes that it allows the bladder time to heal from the "trauma" and always leaves it in two weeks. It does not hurt while it's in, even after two weeks, and in some ways it's nice, not to have to get up to go to the bathroom at night, etc. Taking it out was VERY easy, no pain at all, and I could void normally after having it taken out and have had no bladder problem since. Good luck to you!

I had one inserted during surgery and it stayed in for a few hours after surgfery. I had a little trouble the first time I tried to urinate after it was removed - removal was not painful - and the second time, success!
