Upcoming hysterectomy 5/1: Uterus Acting up

My Doctor joked last week “now that your uterus knows it’s on notice, it’s really going to act out”.

Seriously, that’s what’s going on. Cramping and bloating and I know the bleeding is fixing to rear it’s ugly head again even though it’s only been a few days since it stopped because I just feel unwell.

As nervous as I am about this surgery, Wednessday cannot get here fast enough!

Anyone else feel like .... can we just get it over with so I don’t ever have to feel like this again?

Re: Uterus Acting up

This totally happened to me. About a week and a half before my hysterectomy my dr started me on lysteda to try to stop the bleeding. Which it did, for about a week. Bleeding started up the day before my hysterectomy. Yes, my uterus was not going quietly into that good night, it was going to rage. And yes, the show still goes on even if you are currently bleeding. Found out this bleeding took my hemoglobin down 2 points to just 7.5, but I avoided a transfusion. The waiting was so hard! I just had mine on Monday the 22nd and absolutely no vaginal bleeding or bleeding from my incisions since (small amount of bleeding from urethra due to stent, just immediately after surgery, most people don't get stents so most don't need to worry about that)

Hi,
I had my surgery May 1st last year, and yep I also had one last hoorah with the bleeding before surgery. But now that it's over, I feel better than I have in a decade. Wishing you the best through this journey!

Hi Beckersky -

Sometimes your body has a way of reminding why you are doing this.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 5/1: Uterus Acting up

Mine is going crazy too. It has only been just under three weeks since my last one. That's not totally unusual for me, though. And it's crazy heavy, also not unusual for me, just worse than usual. Yesterday involved multiple times changing bloodstained pants, cleaning the couch cushion, and dealing with more stained sheets. I forgot to ask about taking any pain relievers in the two weeks before surgery, so I'm just not taking anything. I'm using the heating pad, but that just doesn't take care of the intense cramping.

Hopefully it will end a day or two before my surgery, so that's one good thing about it coming early.

Honestly, I'm kind of glad this last one is so awful because I was seriously considering cancelling the surgery, but this is doing a great job reminding me why I need it.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 5/1: Uterus Acting up

I think you're smart to avoid pain relief drugs if your Dr didn't approve them. They wanted to know exactly what drugs and supplements I was taking and once they had those down, they didn't want me to start or stop anything else. Certain pain medications can mess with your blood clotting, you don't want to get a clot or bleed out.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 5/1: Uterus Acting up

I'm with ya. My surgery is May 1st also and I just got finished with my last cycle a week ago and it was the worst one in my life, and I'm already anemic. As if I'm not nervous enough already, now my levels are already low going into this surgery. But I am happy that I will never again have to deal with this stuff after Wednesday. Good luck on your surgery!

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 5/1: Uterus Acting up

I believe my uterus is sad too lol. . . I started having pain about a week ago, which always includes pain in my legs and pelvis. Pre-Op at hospital said no pain meds except Tylenol . . . I say no thanks! I can't imagine being constipated on top of having a surgery. My period will probably arrive the morning of surgery on the 1st of May. I have been all over the board for the last 3 years. So, I've given up on trying to predict it. And to think, at one time I could set my watch to my cycle. Let's get this over and done with!

I was like clock work for years literally knowing when it was coming, down to the hour....that predictability has been gone for years.

Last night was horrible, I woke up in a pool of blood on my light tan sofa at 3am this morning. I showered and pulled the steam cleaner out to clean the couch, waking up hubby and two of the kids.

I am so happy to say this is the last time I will ever have to do this!
