Sedation Used during your TAH/SAH

OK - didn't sleep too well, but I am going to write down everything I can think of and talk to my doc on Monday. I hope I get these same people. It sounds like it wasn't too bad!

Did you ask for something for anti-nausea? It sounds like they took care of that even if you did not say.

One thing I know is I do not want to be aware at the time!

I just remember my sister vomiting after she came out... That was 15 years ago. Maybe we are much better now.

All - Thanks for talking me off the proverbial 'ledge'.

versed is used to relax you, for anxiety and to start the anesthesia process. you might be able to have a spinal with a little sedation so that you are not under general, but its getting close to your surgery date and you probably shouldve talked to the dr/anesthesiologist about this already.
general anesthesia is very very safe..you should have no problems at all. good luck!!

Sedation Used during your TAH/SAH

Re: anti-nausea - While I was still in the pre-op room, one of the nurses asked me if I'd ever been seasick, and I said I was once...and she put a little patch behind my ear for nausea and said it would take care of that "seasick" feeling.

I don't remember feeling nauseated at all, and I forgot about the patch until a couple of days later...!

I hope you get the same people, too - but really everyone I met was awesome and so comforting.

I was very lucky. I actually met my anesthesiologist at my pre-op. He was wonderful, he answered all my questions and put me completely at ease. This was first surgery of any type and was absolutely petrified.

I can honestly say that I remember nothing after they put the oxygen mask on and the syringe in my IV.

Good luck and best wishes
