Having a period during surgery?
I was told by my Dr. to stop taking the pill until surgery for fear of blood clots..........I just started what I hope to be my last period EVER.......if I do the math right I should be close to having another close to my surgery date..........Can they still perform surgery if you are on your period? I KNOW, dumb question since I'll already but I had to ask!

Re: Having a period during surgery?
Hi Jigger - no such thing as a dumb question here!
There may be situations where surgery is postponed but it doesn't seem to happen often. It's important to have that conversation with your surgeon though, because they are the only one who can make the decision. When I asked my surgeon that same question he said it was no problem at all (again that was specific to my case/condition).
Wishing you the best with your upcoming surgery and I hope that indeed you are experiencing your FINAL visit from Aunt Flo!

Re: Having a period during surgery?
Your question is not dumb. I was on aygestin (hormone) to stop heavy prolonged bleeding that I had been having and was told to stop taking it before my surgery and don't you know I started my period again the day of my surgery in pre op! The nurses were not concerned just gave me a pad and a pair of disposable panties to put on. I still had the surgery. Best of luck to you!

Re: Having a period during surgery?
your last visit from Aunt Flo!! Its a very liberating feeling to know that you will never have to worry about her appearance ever again!
As for having surgery while you have your period, I do believe they will proceed. However, its always best to inform your surgeon of any of your concerns. If you do happen to have another nasty visit from Aunt Flo, just make sure you tell your surgeon so that he/she is aware and make the proper decision for your situation.
Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.
Oh and just like Fire said, there are no dumb questions here. Read and ask away.

Re: Having a period during surgery?
I was spotting when I rolled into the OR on Monday. It didn't have any effect on surgery at all.
Good luck with your trip to the Castle!

Re: Having a period during surgery?
I asked my Dr. if having my period was going to pose a problem and she said no. Sure enough I had my period for my surgery but everything went fine.
Best wishes for your upcoming surgery!
