Upcoming Hysterectomy (TVH) Monday 8/10
Hi Everyone,
Reading all of the posts, everyone feels the same going into the surgery mine is scheduled for Monday 8/10 at 7:30 am. I am also a candidate for open abdomen surgery but wont know until I wake up, the goal is TVH removing uterus which is the size of 16 weeks pregnant woman, one large fibroid 11cm, cervix, and tubes, I am leaving the ovaries since I am only going to 46 if this is possible. Since I did deliver my son natural birth the possibility is there, I pray for this.
I have been a bundle of nerves since making the appointment and I let the bad thoughts get the best of me. I am working on focusing on how much better I will feel as many of you have mentioned.
I had UFE in 2013 and did nothing for my large fibroid, while I have not had major symptoms with my cycle but I suffer the bulk symptoms on and off. When I saw the pelvic surgeon who is performing my surgery the whole staff was shocked that a small framed person was carrying this around all this time. I guess I got so used to it , I just felt normal. I don't even know how this all happened so fast even though we have been following the fibroid for so long, the watch and wait is just BS and there needs to be better solutions so a fibroid(s) cannot grow so large, maybe a cut off in size for a less invasive approach for removal. In any case I am here now and moving forward. I do not have any prolapse yet but pretty close. The surgeon is a pelvic reconstruction surgeon, my endocrinologist called her for me given the failed UFE and probably that she has been working with me for some time now. I liked the surgeon right away and her team.
Next comes the 10 day wait for the pathology, I am a little nervous since you cannot confirm cancer in a fibroid until it is out. I know, one step at a time.
I lost my job Thursday after 17 years there and 22 in the industry. I guess I knew it was coming and they gave a nice severance with medical coverage so I am ok there for now but once this is over I am starting over. I am trying to focus on new beginnings all the way around and I am on FMLA through 9/4 paid so I have time to relax and heal.
Wow reading all of the posts and typing mine up was so helpful, I feel much calmer, like a natural release because I was able to share. My boyfriend of over 10 years is going to be with me for the surgery and all of next week at home but he doesn't know how I really feel, or I should say understand.
Thank you all for listening and all of the encouraging posts. I will catch you in the post-op forum and come back here to encourage the ladies preparing.
Thank you- Cari

Hi Cari. I also had surgery july 2nd for fibroids. I feel good now but it takes time to get over this major surgery so don't expect to be doing anything for a few weeks. Stock up your freezer with dinners they are a life saver when you get home. Good luck monday stay positive it is worth it in the end without doubt. Take care and be patient.

Re: Hysterectomy (TVH) Monday 8/10
Hi Cari1021 -
Having a hysterectomy is an overwhelming experience. All of your emotions are completely normal. This is a tough surgery to digest and process. I think the only people who understand are the women who are going through this, or have have already gone through this. I also think it is hard for men to understand the turmoil this causes. My DH surely did not get it.
I understand your reaction to letting the fibroid grow so big, and that maybe there should be another way. Perhaps it is a balancing game, and I think it is hard to predict which fibroids will grow big and which ones will not be a problem.
There is much going on in your life right now. I am sorry about your job loss - that is so tough. Seventeen years at one job, 22 in the industry, is a long time. It is hard to start a new after that, but you have a great attitude.
Just know that you are not alone in this. We are here for you.

Hi! I have found this site to be so helpful and supportive. I wish you the best with your surgery and recovery! I'm also sorry to hear about your job. I go in my for my surgery on the 11th. I also have a fibroid. In 2014 it measured 1.5" by 1.9". I haven't had it rechecked for growth since then but my symptoms have gotten worse over the last year. I will be curious to hear if it has grown or not. Where is your fibroid located? Mine is on the outside of my uterus.

Upcoming Hysterectomy (TVH) Monday 8/10
Hi Cari1021,
I want to wish you the best tomorrow. I had my tvh with anterior and posterior repair 7 weeks ago tomorrow. Everything will be just fine! I had alot of apprehension as well but i am so glad i went through with surgery. The one thing i cannot stress enough is to give yourself as much time as you need to recover. Rest as much as you can and follow doctors instructions. It takes time to feel like yourself again but it will be worth it. Hugs!
