Got the call to move hysterectomy up almost 2 months! (5/5)

Hello! I posted an intro about myself. I have been bleeding since February 24 when I had an IUD inserted and a hysteroscopy due to polyps. I was originally scheduled for June 30 today I got a call they had a cancellation and I'm now having surgery on May 5. I'm not going to lie the accelerated time line has me a little frazzled.

Re: Got the call to move surgery up almost 2 months!

Hi Lorimarie22 to HysterSisters!

I am so glad you found this site! All of your feelings, fears, emotions and anxieties are completely normal.

Having the surgery so close definitely makes it real, especially when it has jumped on you by almost two months. Having a hysterectomy is such an overwhelming experience. Is is a difficult surgery to digest and process.

Keeping your self very busy can help with anxiety, as well as exercise. You have to prepare your household for your downtime anyway, so here are 10 Tips for Preparing for Your Hysterectomy. What I found most useful were the following:
-Meals in the freezer that can be put in the microwave
-Easy foods for breakfasts and lunches
-Loose fitting clothing
-Prepare your recovery corner with pillows and blankets
-Plan entertainment for your brain
-Small pillow to hold against your tummy for coughs and sneezes (or pet visits)
-Super clean your house
-Get your hair cut

Ask what questions you have, and we will try to answer them for you. Or, just get on and express your emotions. It really does help.

You have found a safe place in this website - we will be by your side throughout this process. Many women have gone before you and many will come after you.

In addition to the above, here are a few more tips to prepare for your surgery, and to calm your nerves: clean your house from top to bottom - scrubbing walls and countertops can be surprisingly therapeutic; stock up on disposable plates and cutlery to minimize cleanup, extension cords for plugging in your electronics, and a grabber for picking up small objects off the floor; for constipation and gas, stock up on a good pair of walking shoes, peppermint tea, fiber-rich frozen blueberries and whole grain cereal like oatmeal or All Bran, magnesium-rich dark chocolate and pumpkin seeds, fennel or coriander seeds, ground flaxseeds, Gas-X, a fiber supplement like Metamucil or Benefibre, and a Squatty Potty or small footstool to elevate your feet while you're on the throne, which can help by properly aligning your rectum so the poop can pass through more smoothly; go out for a daily walk, if local pandemic restrictions allow, or look for online walking classes that can be done at home; while you're online, also look for an online yoga or meditation class - doing yoga regularly really helped to calm my pre-op jitters. Wishing you all the best for a successful surgery and a smooth recovery!
