bcp and cycle question.....

one of my last alternatives before a hyst was trying the bcp.....i have only been on them for 1 month and i took the last one on thursday hoping to go ahead and "clean house" before my surgery. but here it is 4 days later and no period. has this ever happened to any of you? should i bother calling my dr? my surgery is 1-27. thanks.

I don't understand the need to "clean house". Did your doctor tell you that?? Many women have the hyst while having their period (I did). And since bcp normally stops the period, it may take a while to bleed after stopping the pill especially since the reason you must be on it is due to a hormonal issue.

i think the cleaning house issue was my thinking....i just wanted to get it over with before my surgery thats all......we tried the bcp to control bleeding and severe cramps. it was a last ditch effort on my part i think. my dr. told me last year i needed a hyst but i just resisted hoping it would all get better on its own but it hasnt and i was just hoping that perhaps maybe the bcp (yasmin) would be the cure all to my problems!!!! oh well......

I took my last pill yesterday, my surgery is next Wednesday. My period should be starting any time now, and I know it will still be here when my surgery day arrives.

I called my doctor the first week of January because I realized when my pills were going to run out and when my period would be here to see if he wanted me to start up another pack to keep the period from happening, but he said no.

If I were you I WOULD go ahead and call and check with the nurse/doctor, they will tell you for sure and that will be one less thing you have to worry about!

I was on bcp's for 12 weeks, then one week to have my period. I "should" have had the period week a couple of weeks prior to my surgery, so called Dr. He just said to take another round of the pills and NOT have the period. I guess he was thinking I didn't need to go through anything else at the moment.
