Yeast before hyster — will it be postponed?

Hi everybody; I'm new here, I live in Finland.

I think I have just got a yeast infection and I'm seeing the surgeon within the week to schedule my hysterectomy. I've waited so long for this. Is he going to postpone the operation?

I've never had a yeast infection before but the pharmacist thinks it is.

Is there anything I can do between now and the visit to get rid of it? I can't use that intravaginal capsule she was suggesting as I can't even get a tiny tampon in nowadays, too painful with the fibroids!

Yeast before hyster — will it be postponed?

Hi Addilon

Yeast infections are no fun at all :-(

It shouldn't mean that you cannot have the operation, I would expect that the surgeon would want to treat it and make sure it is gone prior to surgery though.

Here in the UK canestan do a range of products that you can but over the counter from a pharmacist to treat it. Some of them are tablets that you swallow, cream that you apply to the area to make you more comfortable as well as pessaries to insert vaginally. Talk to your pharmacist again, I am sure they will have other options for you.

Hugs

First of all welcome to HysterSister.

I am pretty sure that since you have not already scheduled your surgery the doctor will treat your yeast infection before you have your surgery.

I remember that when my husband was in for knee surgery I met a women who was being sent home due to a yeast infection. The surgeon would not operate on her until her infection was cleared up and she was having knee surgery!

Don't worry, your doctor will give you the best advice.

Good Luck

you probably should call your dr before your pre-op appt and let him know you think you have a yeast infection and you need an appt right away. you can take a pill, but its prescription only. you really want that cleared up before your surgery.

Yeast before hyster — will it be postponed?

Thank you everybody; I wasn't expecting any answers and I got several! Wow.

Based on your advice I have an appointment with another GYN first thing Monday morning. So by the time I see the surgeon I should be well on the way to getting better.

Thanks again!

Diflucan is what we would be given here in the states. Maybe your doctor could confirm that it is a yeast infection & you only need to take maybe 3 pills. That helps me every time. There are over the counter products but I would want a doctor to verify that it is an infection. Best wishes.
