Thank you for your encouragement and good wishes. The chest gas pains are not as bad today and I went out of my apartment for a very slow and short walk around the block - my first time outside in 4 days. I still have a tender belly (band-aids in 4 places) but am moving slowly and taking Metamucil to ward off constipation

I have a weird right shoulder pain. Comes and goes. I feel it especially if I try to move a little to my side on the right. Is that normal? Also when is it comfortable for most people to sleep on their sides again?

My doctor told me I could expect to feel shoulder pain after the surgery. I personally have had all my pain in the chest or abdomen area but I think shoulder pain is normal

Morning all,

Hypatia, that shoulder pain can be trapped gas, but it usually has escaped after about 4days. It could be from the position they needed to have you in during surgery. If it persists or is worrisome why don’t you give your Dr a call. Can’t really answer the sleep position question. It really is different for everyone. I would just keep trying. You should also try doing some pillow arranging beside you. Maybe if you can use them to make you feel secure in a partial side position you can work your way back to your usual position. Many find a full body pillow is helpful other use two firm pillows.

Trina, have you been eating tummy friendly food. Things you usually can eat after you have had the flu. The anesthesia can interfere with you GI tract digesting well. So your food isn’t getting digested and causes gas production. Have you tried GasX. Maybe some probiotics might help I used my homemade Kombucha, think it helped. For sleep many find melatonin helps. You might want to try sleepytime tea and I have mentioned before deep breathing(full belly breathing, with shorter inhaling and longer exhaling). This last one really works for me.

Hope the rest of you are slowly feeling better. And all please keep along with this keep it slow. Mind your restriction.

Sister Hug,
Anndy

Hello Everyone,
I hope many of the discomforts I'm reading about are subsiding for you all. I'm so grateful for this thread and wish I could do more for you all. I'm 3 days post surgery and still doing well. I do think I have some increased bloating, but my pain levels have remained super low. I have to take my 4 incision bandages off today. That should be interesting since they've become like a second skin! I'm still gassy, which does create some discomfort when it releases. I'm constantly reminding myself to move slowly and avoid sitting up straight for long periods of time. I walked up and down some stairs in my house yesterday. That went fine. I'm also wearing a belly wrap on and off during the day. Hang in there Sisters!

Trina, the catheter has been frustrating me too. It doesn't drain right sometimes and causes some pain. I've been so annoyed by it but don't get it out until Wednesday. Last night I rigged it up to hang on a walker we have from the last time my mom visited. That kept the tubing straight so I wasn't as worried about it working all night. Maybe something like that could help you rest better?

Good afternoon! I had laparoscopic- removed cervix, uterus, Fallopian tubes- kept ovaries yesterday morning.

Surgery went well, the large size of the fibroids didn’t cause a full abdominal surgery thankfully! The removed two that both 10 cm and one that was in the uterine wall next to my bladder...doctor said that one managed to pull my uterus over to the side. All my worries - and it was hard - ended up being all for naught!

I feel tender in my belly, using gas x but no BM yet. I don’t go regularly all the time and usually only in the morning. But...she has me on colace to get things moving. Will see how it goes. Haven’t needed heavy medicine either.

I can walk a little but not far. Just have to do more when I feel ready to do more walking as healing progresses.

Thankful for this site! Really helped me prepare when my current support network is so small. I will see how bed goes tonight - I can take an opiate if I need to.

Just resting in bed and hydrating for now.

: abbyalana,

So glad to have you join the Recovery Progress Report thread and that you are doing well. You have a great group of helpful surgery sisters here. As you can, keep the walking up. It is important to help with circulation down in that congested area. You might want to go back through this thread and read some of my and others helpful comments.

Gentle Sister Hugs,

I had the same surgery. Good luck with your recovery. Rest lots and do small walks. Keep up the bowel helpers as having a bowel movement was one of the toughest parts for me. I found Andy’s heat pad suggestion helpful. I put them in a pillow pocket and clutch it to my abdomen/chest area. It’s comforting just make sure it’s not too hot. Feel better!
