HI-scared
Hello everyone! First let me say what a great site! My name is Jenn and I am 38 years old...well soon to be 39 but who is counting..lol.
I was dx with endometria hyperplasia from my biopsy. My Dr. said that one pathologist said maybe cancer and another said no cancer so they sent it to a 3rd pathologist that said no cancer but late stages of pre, this is how it was explained to me. Anyway he sent me to an GYN oncologist and said I need my uterus and cervix removed. I also have a large fibroid on my uterus so hysterectomy will be done through abdomen.
I will be having the hysterectomy withing the next few weeks, actually my Dr. called tonight and said that someone will be calling me with the date but expect within next couple few weeks to have this. I did notice tonight maybe some concern in her voice about me not wanting to remove my ovaries but she said if she sees cancer she will remove them. That is what has me concerned. What does she mean if she sees cancer, my biopsy raised some eyebrows but it came back no cancer but pre-cancer??
Now I am so scared that I have cancer and really scared as my symptoms have been going on for 3 years or more so now I am thinking 3 years I probably do have full blown cancer by now. Please excuse me for being so ignorant to all of this. I guess my question is, can I of had symptoms for three years and had this pre-cancer and still not have it be full blown cancer? I know I should of asked my Dr. but I didn't start thinking of questions until after I was off the phone with her. When I spoke to my Dr. in her office she didn't say cancer but hyperplasia so why is she saying cancer now and after I had biopsy. I'm sorry to babble but I am a wreck, and to boot I had to send my husband off for a long year deployment today.
Anyway, thanks for listening to me. Any information or words of encouragement would greatly be appreciated.

Re: HI-scared
(((jmkk))) Hearing the "C" word is always scary. As your doctor is saying atypical hyperplasia is considered pre-cancer. During a biopsy all areas cannot be sampled so sometimes it may not show an early stage cancer. During the surgery they will sample the uterus and do a preliminary path report and your gyn is saying IF this biopsy shows cancer the ovaries will be removed. She is providing all scenarios and not saying cancer definitively is there. BTW IF cancer is there it very likely will be very early stage, as this is considered a very slow growing cancer, and often the surgery alone would be the cure.
If there is any chance cancer could be present, it is important to have a gyn/onc available to come in during the surgery if not perform the surgery itself.
There are quite a few women who post about atypical endometrial biopsy on the CC forum and you are welcome to post there if you like, just click on the following link to get there. https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/forumdisplay.php?f=6

Re: HI-scared
Hi there! I allowed my Hyperplasia to go along many years and then it became atypical as well. It was explained to me that if it were cancerous, it was a very slow-growing cancer and likely had not spread anywhere. This turned out to be absolutely true and, in fact, it was just pre-cancerous cells that were found.
Best wishes to you and please keep us posted!

Re: HI-scared
The two previous posts are absolutely correct. It's been over a year for me, and I have my hyster tomorrow. My Dr kept assuring me that it is a very slow growing cancer, once it reaches the atypia stage.
Good luck and take some deep breaths!

Re: HI-scared
Thanks so much everyone!! My oncologist called me with my surgery date..Feb. 17th. I guess my main concern was how long have I been atypical. I have had heavy bleeding for three years or little over but I have been trying to think positive. I also was thinking, if it was late stage cancer I am sure where ever they scraped during biopsy it would of showed cancer.
I am only having my uterus and cervix taken out. I want to keep ovaries as I do not want to start menopause at age 38.."almost 39", however my grandmother did die of ovarian cancer so I am having second thoughts but do think I am going to keep them. It is so confusing.
I thank you for all of your kind words. I am now going to read up on the post-op section and see how recovery will be. I wish I can have the surgery done by laser but since uterus (uterus is like someone who is 4 -5 months pregnant they said) and fibroid is so big they said it has to done with big incision...abdominal surgery I guess they call it. Thanks again.
Bel4fan- GOOD LUCK tomorrow!
