Please help!

Hi I am 38 years old and have never really had any problems until March 2002. I started having a period about everyother week. I went to my gyn in June and he suggested the depro shot so i took it. I have been (lightly) bleeding since June 11. I went back to the dr in Sept. and he suggested a hys but didn't really give me no answers. I hurt in my lower back alot and I cramp alot. I don't pass any clots so its not like my period. My tubes have been tied for about 16 years. I did not take the shot again and I thought that after the shot wore off I might quite bleeding but it has been 4 months since I took the depro shot and still bleeding everyday. Does anybody have any ideal about what might be going on? Oh yea, had eno test and biospey done in June everything came back normal.

Hi Prissy,

Was an ultrasound done to rule out fibroids? What about a blood test? It's good that you had an endo test and that it came back normal, but I certainly wouldn't go forward with any surgery until I had an actual diagnosis! If this doctor won't give you answers, get a second opinion!

I didn't have Depo but I did have Lupron shots, and I believe Depo's supposed to do the same thing: stop the bleeding for a period of time. If you're still bleeding you need to get some answers --- you're probably severely anemic!

Please let us know what happens!

Hi there Prissy,

I agree with Gustogal. Go forward with more testing to find the cause of your problems and get that second opinion no matter what.

Your present doctor should be giving you alot more info. Start a question list for him and the next doctor. I'm serious, make a list on paper and take it with you. Ask direct questions and write down the answer. Repeat the answer to your doctor so that you understand. Don't let your doctor rush you...this is your body and your future. I'm doing this and it works well. And... ask for an ultrasound also called a sonogram. Get a current pap smear and any other tests he recommends. Ask for copies of all tests results and take a copy of them to your second opinion appointment.

Fibroid symptoms do include onset of bleeding and low back aches, clots and cramping, but testing will let you know for sure. Going forward with surgery without knowing the reasons for bleeding is not wise.

I'm glad that you are on this site and asking questions. Please read and ask more. Take your time and learn all you can including your options before you agree to major surgery.

Hi Prissy,

I'm surprised your doctor recommended (and would do) a hyst at your age without a definitive diagnosis (mine wouldn't until I had exhausted all possiblities).
Ask lots of questions (I send my GYN my questions about a week before my appointment so he can read them over and have them in my notes, I take a copy with me to make notes on during my appointment).
Definitely get a second and even third opinion
Get some further testing and blood work done. Have you had your hormone levels checked ? Has your doctor tried any other meds ?
Then research your options as much as possible.
Let us know how things work out for you.
Take care

Ultrasound Oct 28

Sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to the ones that have reply to my post. I took the advice and called my dr. I have an appointment for an ultrasound Monday 28. I will let you know how things turn out. I have this gut feeling that it isn't going to show anything. Don't know why.

It's Monday, so how did it go? Any hints from the tech? I know it's hard to wait for the results. Let us know when you hear. Until then, hang in there!
