Hematoma 3 weeks post hysterectomy

Hello Ladies
Just had my follow up from surgery yesterday. I'd had a lot of pain on my left side. Dr said I have a hematoma around the size of a soda can on the left side of my vaginal cuff. I had blood work to see if WBC count is elevated and urine test after my appointment. They're supposed to call today with how to proceed. My information on MyChart indicates elevated count and something in my urine. Dr said ideally my body would absorb it or flush it out unless blood work indicates infection. It's possible that I'd need a surgery to drain it. I'm so frustrated with feeling awful. My son gets married next Friday and I really wanted to be feeling good by then. Anyone have experience with possible infection/hematoma post-op and having it drained? Thanks!

Hello! I don’t have an answer for you but wanted to say that you are not alone. I have had one thing after another going wrong after this surgery and it is very frustrating! I with you! I am 4 weeks and 3 days and had so many follow ups with the surgeon as I first had a blood clot (so he says) that was breaking up, now I have a defect with my cuff that has a small opening. We are watching it but these things just add to the recovery time. I wish you the very best and hope you do not need another procedure.

Thank you! Significant pain with bowel movements and pain/pressure towards the end of urinating. (Thought maybe UTI) Feels like bad, doubling over, stomach cramps but a lot lower at times.
Just heard from Dr and getting a CT scan scheduled.

Re: Hematoma 3 weeks post hysterectomy

That's a sizeable hematoma - no wonder it hurts. Often they're left to reabsorb or drain on its own which is what your doctor is advising. The open-and-drain procedure is often reserved for larger ones or those which have gotten infected, something your doctor said. I don't have personal experience with a hematoma, but as hard as it is, try not to get ahead of your doctor's steps. This older thread might help - there's a reply from a Sister whose hematoma was infected. She was put on a course of antibiotics: Hematoma, 11 days post hysterectomy (04/2019)
