I just had mine on Monday. Got back from the castle yesterday afternoon. I'm doing pretty well. I didn't know I was going to be swollen from top to bottom. The scales say I gained 15 pounds, but as always, scales lie. I was so thirsty after surgery I think I drank 2 gallons of water (glad I had a cathader)

I'm not sure if this is a record or not, but here is what the doctor found:
Originally he thought I had a fibroid about the size of a lemon and said it looked cancerous (even after the biopsy he thought there were cancer cells).

When he opened me up he found 14 fibroids, 9 of them at least the size of a lemon. The anatheseologies(sp) came to check on me and said it looked like soccer ball. They took pictures and showed me one. It was about a 16 week gestation.

I'm pretty sore, but am getting around well. Last night we propped up a bunch of pillows for me to sleep on I was pretty comfortable but am ready to change positions. My first nap I'm going to try and take those away so I can sleep on my side. Not sure if it will work.

I went to the castle that time of the month (it was the super heavy day of my period). Within a couple of hours, no more bleeding.

I got home from the castle yesterday after having my LSH on the 21st. I am typing from bed. I had been reading about swelly belly the last several weeks but I was still shocked to see how my stomach looked. Yuck!! I look pregnant! My husband has already yelled at me b/c he caught me bending down to pick something up. Overall, I feel ok, just tired. The hospital gave me chewable tablets for the gas which worked very well so I was passing gas before I left the hospital. After they took the catheter out, I could pee on my own as well. Sitting around is already driving me nuts. I was on my period when I went into surgery and now it's gone. Woo hoo!!

2-Days Post-op

Hello all!
I am sitting in my recliner with my laptop and hope everyone is doing well with their recovery.

I had a LSH on Tuesday (so I kept my ovaries and cervix) and am doing pretty well. Quite honestly, I slept better and felt better Tuesday night/Wednesday. I have more pain today, although it is not severe by any means. I have only taken 4 tablets of Vicodin since I came home; Naprosyn has really worked better and who wants to take a narcotic when you don't need to?

My surgery took about 2 hours and it took me longer than usual to wake up from the anesthesia. After the doctor spoke to my husband, he expected to be in the recovery room with me within 30 minutes...but it was more like 2 hours! I rolled into the OR at 11 and Rod was at my side at 3pm. A long day for him!

Amazingly, as I was lying on the stretcher post-op, I was just sleepy with really no pain. Finally when I was awake enough, the nurse assisted me to a recliner...and that's when the troubles began! Thankfully, Rod appeared then and that helped ease my mind. I just felt so dizzy and then the nausea hit. And you know the biggest fear of an abdominal surgery patient is vomiting...and it happened to me!! I was very explicit with the anesthesia team about my past 2 surgeries and the post-op vomiting. The plan sounded great: 4 anti-nausea meds during the procedure and then a shot of Phenergan right before I woke up. Plus, they put an OG tube (tube down the mouth into the stomach) down during surgery to keep my stomach empty...so glad I was out of it for all that!

I felt really good that I wouldn't suffer again this time. But, I guess I am just one of the unlucky ones that has n/v despite all the attempts to prevent it. Of course, I don't know if taking meds by mouth in the preop area contributed in any way: Valium, Tylenol and Neurontin (the last 2 are the newest thinking in helping with post-op pain). I'll never know, I guess.

Anyway, the first episode of vomiting came not long after I got to the recliner. After it was over, I felt OK. It was too early to give me anything for nausea due to all the meds given during surgery. Later when I stood up to try to get to the bathroom, I made it about 6 steps and had to get back to the chair to throw up again. After this, they called and were able to get another order for IV Zofran, plus an injection of Toradol for pain, plus requested a bed for me to stay overnight. Thankfully, even with the vomiting, the pain never was severe...that really amazed me! Anyway, within an hour, I felt completely different, had taken in lots of ginger ale and was able to urinate. The overnight observation bed was cancelled and we left the castle about 6:15pm!

I was so happy to be home the first night with and my little Chihuahua, Angel, to cuddle with in bed. I slept great and only woke up around 4:15am to take some pain med.

My doctor just called to tell me the pathology reports were all negative and that she has great photos to show me at my post-op visit next Tuesday, Aug. 28. She reminded me that today and tomorrow (post-op days 2 & 3) tend to be the roughest, with the gas and pain. She suggested I use ice on the area and a tight pair of undies...should have shopped the HysterSisters store before...lol!

I have had no bleeding either---what a blessing.

There were times during the last few days that being an OB/GYN nurse was a good thing and times it just made me worry more. But now that I am home and recuperating, I am just so happy I had the surgery (after it was recommended 3 years ago).

I thank HysterSisters for all the information and support. I may be a nurse, but I need the support that only fellow sisters can provide. I will be definitley be recommending this site!

I am holding all of us in prayer and look forward to reading all your posts and providing support to you as you all have done for me!

Hey Ladies, I had my LAVH/LSO on the 21st. The surgery went really really well. I had no problems waking up ( I am normally combative) They gave me the happy button that I had no qualms about using at all. I was doing so well that when my doc came to check on me.. I was walking. He found me in the hallway just pushing along my little coatrack of goodies. I dozed off for a few minutes after they woke me up but otherwise I didnt sleep at all in the hospital.

I was out walking at one point and a nurse sugested that I go to another room (where she knew the woman was awake too) and invite her to walk with me. So, I did. We walked.... and walked.. and walked. My coat rack of goodies had a radio call button on it and I had to use it. The nurse sent a couple of orderlies to retrive us from the gift shop/coffee shop at 3am. It wasnt until the ride in chairs back that we realized how far we actually walked. Fortunately we didnt anger the nurses and they said if we wanted to to it again. it was fine by them.. walking is a very good thing. So at 6am.. we did it again.

I came home Wed morning. No longer having my happy button.. thats when the real pain set in. My doc thinks that I might have walked too much. I have a friend here who will stay with me till tomorrow night when my husband will relieve him and another friend coming on Monday. I am so grateful for the pre surgery shopping list. The only thing on it I didnt get was the lip balm.. now I am really wishing I had. The gas pains are really not so bad. My cramps were worse by far. I had a fever spike last night. My doc has me on antibiotics... and we are watching it. It just seems to randomly go up and down. Its going back up now.. so I guess its back to be for me.

Anyway.. all and all.. the waiting was the worst part! I am so relieved all of this is over. I am comforted in knowing that each day it will get better.

Thanks so much for all the support you have all shown me. I just dont know how any woman does this without HysterSisters!

Just Got Home

Hi LAdies,

Just got home from the castle.. I had a TAH/BSO... Everything went well .. I had lots of scar tissue and the doc took one ovary due to endometriosis.. He said the scar tissue was so hard to cut through it was like a rock..

Recovering nicely minus the pain when I get up to move around but otherwise fantastic..I hope it stays this good..
Please feel free to write me.. Any ladies with fears, please write I can relate and believe me it's not bad at all.. I can't take minor pain and have fears like you wouldn't believe, it's not that bad.. Just recuperation can be tough but the tough part is over.... :hug

Hi ladies,

I had an LAVH LSO on the 21st. day of went well. Night was very weirdly long but not bad until around 6 am. became so drowsy, nauseated, sweaty, swollen. Really hard to keep my eyes open at times. Turns out I had had too much of the medicine from the pump. Once I was off of it I felt much better. Doc came in and said also that the wicked headache and the nausea and sweating were from estrogen withdrawal. She got me on the patch right away then.

Once I got up and walked in the halls and went to the bathroom I started to really feel good. By the time my Hubby got there I was ready to go. I would never have believed I would feel so good so soon after. Sure not like my emergency c-sec.

Sore. First time up at computer and my butt hurts so I have to stop now. It will be sooooo hard to go slow. But just going down the stairs hurts so it lets me know we have some healing to do.

Oh, and gasx isnt working for me at all. gas hurts

Hello everyone!!....So happy to be home......I had my LSH on Wed.,Aug 22.....I had the Da Vinci lap surgery with prolift mesh support for bladder/rectal prolapse...I was lucky enough the I got to keep my cervix and both ovaries....my surgery was scheduled for 12pm was supposed to be around 3 hrs...when I woke up in recovery it was 9:30pm.....my poor DH...apparently the robot kept getting stuck??.....and it would take awhile to readjust..but worked out well anyway....I have 4 small incisions...I only stayed in Wed nite and came home Thursday 12pm.....my pain in the hospital was very minimum...nurse filled my bladder, removed my catheter and helped me to the bathroom where it took a few minutes of running my hands under water before i could go....the first walk to bathroom was very painful and she had to give me a shot of morphine as well as the diladud.............after that I made it back 2 or 3 times by myself....felt good when i got home...but than alot of the internal numbing solution wore off and found it a little more painful to walk...managed to sleep in bed sitting up all nite...was not bad...no real pain.....this morning I awoke at 4:30am i decided to get out of bed while DH was still home as he had to go to work today....i walked to my living room, computer chair unassisted but hunched over....It went alot better than I hoped and now I can say the waiting was the worst part....HAPPY HEALING to the rest of the hystersisters...one day at a time...
