I do know I'm still having some pain management issues, because I can't take NSAID's like motrin or aleeve, I am limited to tylenol and that does no good at all. Because of my situation not being as drawn out, I am a new patient with my gyn. I only saw him twice before surgery. He was pretty adamant at the 2 week point that I should be almost done with pain meds. So when I refilled my med after that he went from Lortab to Darvocet (which isn't much more helpful than tylenol) - and I told the nurse at the time that he needed to know that it took two of the darvocet for relief from even milder pains. When I drive, no matter how long, I end up with pain like there are softballs in my abdomen where my ovaries were. *sigh* I am ready to get back to my life too!
I know one thing for sure... there was NO WAY I was prepared for the recouperating this has been. I knew 'take it easy for 6 weeks' was going to be a challenge, but I thought it would be me trying to do too much too soon. I can't do that if I want to...just doing what I *should* be able to do kicks my butt... overdoing it means I go to a youth football game where I have to walk less than 1/4mile to the field. Any hills and I'm shot! Is anyone else having to still take pain meds without any type of setbacks technically happening? I'm not in constant pain, but sitting/standing/driving all tend to be very short lived before I have to lie back down. At 2 days shy of 6 weeks I am wondering if the dr is just going to tell me it's normal~?
Robin,

I am so sorry you are going through a longer recovery. That must be so discouraging! Are you getting off of the steriods soon? Let us know what the Dr says on Wednesday.

He likes the patch better because it bypasses the liver and also gets into your blood stream more effeciently. He is starting me out with a low dose, 1 gram, so I will go pick it up today and give it a try. I think one of you said you are taking Estradiol, but I have a hard time maneuvering around this website. Whoever you are, did you experience any bad side effects? I looked it up online and it said it could cause nausea, vomiting and mirgraine headaches! Geez, I don't want to trade a set of problems for a different set of problems. As a side note, he said smoking or drinking can definiately increase your hot flashes. I guess I need to stop those ugly habits. The smoking is so hard for me to put down! I guess I could get the nicatine patch and be on 10 different meds, grrrr.
Thanks! and Hugs!
Recovery,

It sounds like your dr agrees with Vliet. She says the same thing about pills. But you are taking the estradiol which is supposed to be better. Have you looked into a generic estradiol patch? It might be alot cheaper. Just a thought! I hope you feel better without any of the side effects. Let us know how it goes.

I finish up the steroids tomorrow, I already set an appointment with my doctor for the morning before I see my gyn. Since I have been with my doc for 8 years (through a messy bout with panic/anxiety and PTSD) I can talk to her about the pain management issues and know if she feels I should even approach it with the gyn or if she wants to take over the post op stuff at this point. I also ran out of my premarin samples and haven't gotten my Rx in the mail yet <sigh> and think that is what is causing me to have headaches, which only aggrivate feeling icky.
It's kind of annoying, I can't take ibuprofen (which I KNOW would be enough with the milder pain to keep me from having such a hard time moving around for normal tasks) because IT BREAKS ME OUT IN HIVES! So you can imagine how much it drives me nuts to have hives anyway. They are MUCH milder than the medicine reaction hives, these are more like stress related - but they are miserable. I know it's a totally different skin reaction, but come on! Who wants to break out in hives 3 times a day even on medications? So I will go from the post op check point from surgery to having to consult a whole new specialist to find out where the hives are coming from....LOL
Thanks for the well wishes and I will check in after Wed's appointment

I think the healing process for everyone is individualized. We all heal differently and Drs. don't always know for sure if 6 weeks will be enough. I had bad pains for about 2 weeks and then after they they sorta tapered off. I am 13 weeks post op now and I still have little bitty catchy pains here and there. I still sometimes get winded after walking for a length of time. Driving doesn't bother me and didn't after 6 weeks but the hot flashes are a bugga!! They come and go but when I get them I feel like I'm on fire. They start at my head and go down to my feet. I know it just takes time to get completely normal. I'm 47 and my friend that had surgery August 27 is 33 and she said now she feels great. She is 14 years younger than me though so I guess it's true when they say the older you are the longer it takes to heal. Just hang in there sisters, it will all get better by and by. I am still not normal so I just take one day at a time.

I got headaches for 3 days when I cut my estrogen way back. They got better after that. However the hot flashes came back and doc. is increasing my estrogen again. Hope your headaches are better and figure out the hive issue.

WooooHooooo Work....

Ok so the Dr. gave me the clear to work.... I about had an orgasm when those words came outta his mouth!!! So I am going to head uptown and help my DH put siding on a house that he is working on. I sure hope he doesn't send me home. Maybe I should have gotten something from my Dr. stating I could be released to return back to work. My DH has been doting over me since surgery, making me laydown and not do much of anything. Only my Sisters know how much I have been doing.... I make sure I am laying down when he comes home for lunch, then I am back up again when he leaves.
So Sisters I am off to work at noon and I am going to be in heaven!!!
Thanks to you all for being here for me! Blessing to you all!

Just because you are released down not mean that you are 100% --
please be careful. You still got tons on internal healing to be doing

putting siding on ahouse is a ltittle extreme.

please go slow jumping into thing -- as you can still cause problems for your self

I am back at work. Went back to Dr last week for 6 wk and she cleared me to return to normal. If only!!! I was dead tired yesterday when I got home, wonderful DH agreed to leftovers for dinner. I have some clothes I can wear but by the end of the day the waist band is tight. Don't have any stretchy work clothes so as soon as I get home off them come. Going to the chiropractor today, my back is killing me and I think it is from sitting for the past 6 weeks. DH was so happy when the Dr said it was ok for sex. I was terrified but went slow, I did anyway, DH didn't last long and it was fine. Didn't hurt or anything. Now the normal thing, I am still sooooooooo tired and still don't sleep without ambien so I am so looking for normal again.
