Question about LAVH - pain in recovery?
I just got the call from The Castle...My original time was 7:30(surgery)...now they have moved it to 9:30(Have to be there at 6:30AM) Anyway, here it is 3 days away..I have been waiting over 5 weeks now and it is finally time! I am so scared though!
I also had a question for those who have had LAVH...When you wake up in recoevry how much pain are you in? I am sure it is different for everyone, but I just kind of want to be prepared!
I also want to thank everyone who has been here for me the past few weeks...I will be checking in all weekend here also...I need some prayers!!! I am such a baby!
Your all wonderful!!

Question about LAVH - pain in recovery?
I declined pain pills after mine, but was a tad regretful that night. I would say that the general anesthesia does its magic for some time, but the later hours may require something, so it's important to have your physician put pain pills on your chart before surgery - rather than later waiting for the dr. to be tracked down and so on...
The pain was quite bearable; women having hysterectomies have often dealt with extraordinary pain for years, so this is utterly do-able.
Good luck, heal well, take good and careful care to speed recovery.

Question about LAVH - pain in recovery?
I had my lavh thursday feb 8, 2006 I was not in a lot of pain at all. THey hooked the morphine pump in and it really kept me quite comfortable. The foley was a little uncomfortable, if you happened to sit wrong. Get up and get moving, it helps so much.

Question about LAVH - pain in recovery?
Hello WhitneyB! Deep breath in, hold for count of 3 and out slowly. Reach for chocolate. Its okay to be scared because it really is a big deal. I had an LAVH and was given the option (when I talked the anesthetist the morning of the surgery-fine time to expect someone to make a rational decision...)of having epimorph, which is a spinal injection of morphine. Wonderful stuff! I got it just prior to surgery, as in, while I was sitting on the operating table, but after the "happy juice" (thank God they have a sense of humour). It numbed me from the waist down, still had a general but only required a lighter dose which makes coming out of it better. The legs were numb when I woke up, much like when you kneel for a long time and your legs fall asleep. That slowly came out without the pins and needles sensation-yay! I had no pain whatsoever (neither did the lady in the bed next to me who had her hysterectomy right after me) for the first 36 hours. They gave me Tylenol pills and an Indocid suppository while I was in (was discharged 27 hours after the surgery) and so I just took some Tylenol and Ibuprofen when I got home and was off them in a week. There really wasn't much pain at all, didn't need any strong stuff at all.
I must say, the anticipation was much worse than the reality. I'm sure things will go well, and if you do have any pain, let them know right away, don't try to tough it out.

Question about LAVH - pain in recovery?
I had started a thread that was titled "Do you remember being in recovery?"
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...d.php?t=284214
Although there were some women who did remember being in recovery, most of us didn't. I asked the surgeon about it and he replied that basically they do give you a drug so you don't remember it.

Question about LAVH - pain in recovery?
I hope I don't remember being in recovery, but in past surgeries I always have remembered. I hate being in pain worse than anything!

Question about LAVH - pain in recovery?
I had an LAVH/BSO. I don't even remember being in the recovery room my surgery was at 7:30am. I was taken to my room at about 5:30pm and don't recall anything until about 6:30 pm, nurse came in then and showed me how to use my pca pump which I did use that night and the next day. They removed the pca pump the next evening and started me on oral pain meds and I was discharged on the er third day. I used my oral pain meds the next 2 days at home. I still have most of them in the bottle - I used very few of them. I used more motrin to try to alleviate the swelling from a hematoma I had gotten during surgery. I was up walking around, sitting short amounts of time in our family room from 3 days post op.
Surgery was not bad at all and pain was least amount of pain of any of my surgeries and my hyst was Number 20 of 21 surgeries that I have had.

Question about LAVH - pain in recovery?
I didn't think the pain was too bad. I woke up in recovery. The nurse asked me to rate my pain to make sure I had come out of the general anesthesia without problems. I vaguely remember telling her an 8 out of 10, but she instantly gave me drugs and that is the last thing I remember until I woke up again in my room. The hospital has lots of good pain meds. Don't be afraid to use them if you need them. It is easier in the long run if you stay on top of the pain and don't wait until you are hurting to ask. I had a morphine pump and loved it.
