Upcoming hysterectomy 6/6: Question about 23 hour observation

My surgery is Monday morning, and I'm planning on the over night stay because I have some other health issues, like a heart condition and kidney disease. It never occurred to me to ask when the 23 hours starts. Is it when I am? Surgery start time? Surgery end time? When I wake up in post op? I was planning on sending my husband home for the night; it's only 30-40 mins away.

They count it from when they put you in a room after surgery and recovery.

It may be hospital dependant, so do check with your insurance co to be sure. But in the end, if you have other health issues, it may be over 23 hrs to get you stable and safe. It's just good to know in advance when the times hit.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 6/6: Question about 23 hour observation

My insurance counted it from the time I was admitted to my room. Even though I'd actually been at the hospital almost 10 hours at that point (it took them forever for them to get me a room, so I partied in recovery for a long time...no joke, I had graham crackers, sprite zero, and pain meds...I was allllll good....lol).

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 6/6: Question about 23 hour observation

I went into hospital at 6 AM . Transferred to post-recovery room at 4PM. Was discharged at 11 AM. havent seen a bill yet so...I dunno.
But get your husband to stay, or a friend. I was throwing up several times in the night, and needed some pain med and my girlfriend was WonderWoman. And still is.
Nurses too, wonderful

Thanks everyone.

My husband is willing to spend the night, but I'd hate for him to be uncomfortable and exhausted the next day when I'll have no more nurses and will need him. I'll have him pack a just in case bag that he can leave in the car unless he needs it.
