Surgery Monday

Hey there all you January 8-9 princesses! You'll do great! These jitters are perfectly normal and you WILL meet us on the other side just fine! My thoughts and prayers are with you and can't wait to hear how all of you are doing when you come home again!

Enjoy the weekend and try to get some sleep!

My surgery is also Jan 8th - 1:30pm.

I had been having some anxiety past few days. But since going to final pre-op yesterday, the anxieties are slowly going away.

Everything is falling into place and I feel I'm more mentally prepared than ever. There's almost a sense of calm coming over me.

As for strange feelings about losing uterus ... I just finished up with my last visit from Aunt Flo and it did seem a bit odd knowing there will be no more visits.

No more tampons, no more cramps, no more writing period dates on calendars. Something that has been part of my life for so long.

For me, I never had children (husband has grown children from previous marriage) ... but having doctor remind me that having surgery meant "no more babies" did have an effect on me for a few days.

It just was so final and in a way somewhat sad even though at my age I wasn't considering having children at this point in my life.

Good luck to all those having surgery on Jan 8th.

Look forward to hearing about your experiences and sharing mine as well.

I'm in at 7.30 and surg at 9.30. Also found the pre-admit appt to be calming. Something final and resolved about it. Also the acceptance that they had everything under control, and all I had to do was lay back and let the anesthesia take over.
I've had a few other surgeries before, and remember the odd feeling of speaking briefly with nurse or anesthistis, whoever was around and then a nurse saying it's all over. I would have no memory of any passage of time or of even falling asleep. It is truly a time of trust in the caregivers.
