large fast fibroid panic
I am so whiny this week. So much to think about. When I first got fibroids, in my early 20s, they seemed to get bigger really fast. I had UAE and they shrank. Now in my late 30s, I noticed a growth spurt starting a year and a half ago which seems to have slowed or stopped. My symptoms didn't get much worse and I was frankly tired of doctors, so I ignored it. No doctor ever said the cancer word to me before now! This is the first I've heard of rapid fibroid growth being a cancer symptom. And the type of cancer sounds like the abandon-all-hope kind.
I had an MRI and the tissues around the uterus and my lymph nodes were clear, but I'm not sure how much that reassures me. I've been ignoring it for a really long time. I had an MRI check up in early 2007 which showed some fibroid growth and a mass of 8 cm. It's now 20 cm. I know there's nothing to be sure about until the biopsy comes back, but it seems like a lot of women have rapid fibroid growth in their late 30s/early 40s? Is this wishful thinking? I'm so scared I can't sleep. I know it's dumb. I just wish I had known before.

Re: large fast fibroid panic
Please take a deep breath as you sound really scared. My fibroids grew very quickly (from a baseball to a volleyball size) in a couple of months. My doctor was not worried about cancer at all. He told me that growth of fibroids is not indicative of cancer and that only very, very, very rarely, are they malignant. You might want to ask your doctor why he or she thinks that cancer might be involved here.
The other thing I suggest is to ask your question in our Cancer Concerns forum. The hostesses there are incredible and could answer your questions in much more depth than I.

Thank you, I will try the other forum. She said that very rapid growth was the sole reason to be suspicious. But it seems like a lot of women have had rapid growth, so I am confused as well as scared. I felt ok until I googled leiomyosarcoma and saw the 0-5% survival stat. It's too bad I ran out of atavan.

Re: large fast fibroid panic
I googled fibroids rapid growth and actually was reassured that it is not a sign of cancer. My doctor concurred. Funny how doctors have different opinions but go to the cancer concerns. They really know their stuff there.
