LAVH: LAVH..hospital stay length

Hi...just wondering...for the post op sisters, what was your length of stay in the hospital? The hospital told me minimum of one, but maybe more. Not sure what I should plan for.

I had a TAH BSO, and I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 days. For an LAVH it might be shorter. They will probably want certain bodily functions to happen before they will let you go - things like urination, BM, etc. Everyone is different, and wakes up from the meds at different rates. From the other LAVH posts I have read it appears that most of them were in the 1 to 2 day range.

Hi not sure if it's different in America, but I have been told 4-5days in hospital (in Australia) & then 2 weeks full bed-rest & 4-6 weeks to be back at work, good luck & I will watch other responses to your question as I felt the time frame was longer than I expected ((hugs)) x

I was in for just short of 2 days, however I had a tough recovery for the anesthesia. I had the option to stay the second night, but chose to go home. I wanted to sleep and that is tough when they need to check vitals through the night. I just needed to begin passing gas... No BM. That didn't come until 4th day post op. Good luck to you!

I am schedule for a LAVH/BSO and my doctor says I will be in for 23 hours.... I am trying to figure out if I should plan for more too just in case.

I went in Feb 13 for LAVH that began at 9:30 am. The doctor checked on me Feb 14 @ 8:30 am and told me I could go home when I was ready. I finally left around 11 am after showering and the nurse going over my discharge information.

The doctor said I had met all the milestones of going to the bathroom, walking, hearing gas bubbles in my stomach and being able to hold down food so he saw no reason to keep me any longer. On the paperwork, he put a 3 day stay for insurance purposes in case they were needed, it would already be approved.
