No bowel prep?

I asked my gyno about bowel prep or diet restrictions the day before my hyster - Nov 29th - and there's no bowel prep or diet restrictions.

Did anyone else not have to do any bowel prep? She did say to start stool softeners the week before as to avoid any possible problems after the surgery. I just automatically thought I would have to do enimas or something.

Thanks for your help....you ladies all ROCK!

Re: No bowel prep?

I didn't have to do bowel prep. The GYN suggested a low residual diet for a few days before surgery because I already had problems with constipation. I also took stool softeners leading up to surgery to try and avoid problems afterwards. So far, my bowel has been normal (or as normal as mine ever is). I'm really glad I got going on the stool softeners before surgery. I think it made a big difference afterwards.

Re: No bowel prep?

I didn't have to do any bowel prep either. It wasn't a problem at all- they gave me stool softners in hospital and I ate 6-8 dried apricots daily after surgery for about a week and a half which kept everything just fine!

Re: No bowel prep?

No bowel prep for me either. I was also told to just eat as normal until midnight the night before. I didn't have any bowel issues afterwards. Just be sure to do exactly what your tells you. Don't do any type of bowel prep if you're not instructed to. If you do, your surgery could be cancelled.

Best wishes! I hope everything goes well!

Re: No bowel prep?

No bowel prep for me. To be at hospital at 7am so can eat up until midnight then only water until 6.30am.

I already take stool softners now as I have problems.

Re: No bowel prep?

I am not required to do a bowl prep either, just clear liquids from lunch time on the day before surgery.

Re: No bowel prep?

Thank you ladies! I was only seeing posts about doing the bowel prep and I started to freak out - as if I'm not sort of freaking out enough as it is!

No diet restrictions other than nothing by mouth at all after midnight and no bowel prep - just to start stool softeners the week before. So far, it sounds pretty good to me!

Thanks again for making me feel not so crazy!
