Saggy Breasts?

Hi, my surgery is Tuesday. I'm having TAH BSO. I'm 42. I have heard that a hysterectomy can cause your skin to become dry, old and wrinkley and that it can make your boobs sag. Also that it will make you gain weight. Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? If it is I think I am going to cancel. Thanks for any advice. Oh my dr says he is putting me on hormones right after surgery.

Re: Saggy Boobs?

It doesn't necessarily make you gain weight, but you need to be more careful. I lost about 8 pounds since surgery, but I've been walking a lot. My skin has always been dry and my boobs have always sagged so I can't say I've seen any difference. A few women have reported that their breasts got a little bigger after a hysterectomy. I'm 55, was mostly through menopause and can't take hormones due to endometriosis & being a DES daughter.

Re: Saggy Boobs?

scared,

Boy do I know about scared. I put my hyster off for five years because of fear of the unknown. You're not alone here.

The hyster won't cause you to gain weight or your breasts to sag--loss of hormones is more likely to. I had my ovaries removed during my hyster, went on hormones and was finally able to lose weight. I didn't have the PMS, insatiable appetite or crazy mood swings perimenopause was causing and was able to lose 50 pounds.

Recent studies are showing HRT to be beneficial for young women with no increased risk of breast cancer. The older studies showing harm are being debunked. Your doctor is putting you on hormones so he must think they are safe.

My breasts don't sag and are actually bigger when I'm on hormones. At five years post-hyster I wish I hadn't put it off so long. My cranky uterus was making my life miserable and I put my hyster off much too long.
