opinion about moving after surgury

Another question...i have so many...

Anyway, I'm scheduled for an abdominal hyst. on March 31st. I am planning on moving almost 1,000 miles away on June 15th....my worry is whether I'll be able to do any of the lifting of boxes etc. by then or could it be dangerous.

I'll ask the doc when I see her too but I was just curious as to others opinions.

I'm trying to fly my son here to help since it's only my hubby and myself here, and he just had major surgury himsrlf last year.

Hi

You'll know best how you're feeling by the time your move comes around. At that point, you should be about 10 weeks? At 10 weeks I was feeling really great, but wasn't quite up to lifting as much as I could before surgery. It really does take a while to get all your stamina and strength back, especially if you're having an abdominal hyster?

I'm now at 6+ months and starting to feel like I'm mostly back to normal...I might have been too careful, but sure didn't want to slow down my healing process by doing anything silly or too soon. I figured it was better to err on the side of safety. I can still feel a bit tender-tummied if I lean on a counter wrong.

Something to be aware of is that your healing time also depends on how much work is done, what kind of shape you were in before surgery and if there are any post op complications. That 6-8 week healing time is only our initial healing...it takes a full 6-12 months for everything to heal inside.

Good luck to you!

If it was me i'd plan on packing the boxes and having hubby lift them. You can also recruit a couple of college guys from the local university to come help load up boxes for you - College kids ALWAYS need a little extra money, it will be cheaper than hiring a moving company and your hubby won't be the only one doing the lifting.

Hi,

I moved from Florida to Tennessee at 3 months post-op and did okay. I packed the boxes and had my brother and son do the lifting. It was very exhausting though and I had aches and pains for months afterwards.

Just take it easy and let someone else do the heavy stuff. It takes anywhere from 6 months to a year for full healing to take place.

s,

Lisa

I will be moving when I am also about 3 mths post op. and I plan on lifting nothing heavier that 35-40 pounds. My dr said I could do pretty much what I wanted to but to also use my common sense. So I'm packing my boxes lighter than I normally would have.
