Re: Upcoming surgery: Diet after Hysterectomy
I was low carbing before my surgery, but went ahead and ate what my body wanted afterwards. In all honesty, it wasn't much because my stomach was so queasy for awhile. Almost 6 weeks post and getting back to normal. I have lost almost 10 pounds since surgery.

Re: Upcoming surgery: Diet after Hysterectomy
Nicky B - Hello. I had my TAH 3 months ago now. I was a regular exerciser as well (6-7 days a week) and 2 months prior to my hyster I was very diligent about what I ate - exercise - no wine etc. Post hyster - even with my larger vertical incision - I was walking the day after my surgery. About 3 days after I was walking 3 miles every morning. Also - as some of the other girls have mentioned - my appetite was definitely not there for the first few weeks but made sure that I at healthy - fruits - veggies - soups - lots of water - peppermint tea etc.
I actually lost a few lbs the first few weeks post surgery and because I had been carrying around a 4.6lb fibroid for years - I immediately felt lighter :} My entire body improved when the fibroid was taken out.
The number one priority post surgery was to ensure I ate healthy - walked - rested and lots of water. Especially with a TAH - - ensuring that the recovery goes well is super important.
Good luck!!

Re: Upcoming surgery: Diet after Hysterectomy
Thanks Edielongbeach! I am much more fit this time around than I was 10 years ago for my Myomectomy surgery. I have focusing on legs and core as I know this will help alot in my recovery! How big was your fibroid? I have one the size of a small grapefruit and multiple smaller ones. My uterus last measured in the summer was the size of a 26 week pregnancy..
I hope to be up and walking a bit soon after!
Anyonymoose, thank you! Hope you are well!

Re: Upcoming surgery: Diet after Hysterectomy
I am a Personal Trainer & Dancer and this was one of my biggest concerns as well pre-surgery. As someone who exercises regularly I am finding it difficult to not doing anything active (I'm 2 weeks post-op - TLH). But on the upside I have actually lost 1.5kg since going into my surgery - so you may not necessarily put weight on either.
The main thing with calories is to find out your BMR & TDEE. Your BMR (Base Metabolic Rate) is the minimum number of calories your body needs to function (eg: if you lay in bed all day and did nothing). Your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is the maximum number of calories your body needs depending on how active you are. You can google for calculators to work this out, and as long as you are eating between the two, you should not put on any weight

Re: Upcoming surgery: Diet after Hysterectomy
I lost 12 lbs after my hysterectomy Nov17 2016 I started walking around the block a few times a day and slowly increased to a mile twice a day within a week.My appetite decreased after surgery I would eat when hungry rather than eating because it's my lunch hour at work.

Upcoming surgery: Diet after Hysterectomy
I am also afraid of gaining more weight. I am currently 11 days post LAVH. Hopefully I am able to loose weight.
