Nipple discharge

Hello
My hysterectomy was March 2017. My ovaries were left. I do not experience monthly symptoms In regards to menstrual cycles and my last child was born in 2013. I continued to be able to have milk discharge years after his birth. I assumed after my hysterectomy that that would stop. I will say that it has definitely lessened tremendously. But I can actually still get what appears to be milk out. Is this normal?
It is not bothersome - I’m just curious In the normalcy and if it means anything? Thank you In advance

Re: Nipple discharge

Generally speaking it is not normal. Being able to express milk over a year after weaning is a possible sign of breast cancer. After my second baby I had expressed milk for years also. When I mentioned it to my Dr she took a sample of the milk and looked at it under the microscope to make sure it was just milk. It was. So it does happen, but it can be a sign of something serious and should be checked out.
