Cold Feet

I'm new to this forum, so I'll try to keep it short. I must admit by finding Hyster Sisters, I changed my mind about have a TAH/BSO.
My diagnosis after a short bout of post menopausal bleeding (I'm 58) was that I had hyperplasia with no atypia (non pre-cancerous). My first GYN said since I was so young and there was always a chance it would eventually turn to cancer that I have the hyster. I decided to have a second opinion and she also suggested that the surgery would be the best route to take and at my age the best would be a complete - as non of the "equipment was doing me any good anymore, plus I could knock out the possiblily of all the other forms of cancer - uterine, cervical, tubes and ovaries. I was all set to have my surgery this Monday - January 19 and after doing a lot of research and reading this wonderful sight - I cancelled and told her I wanted to just do another D&C. If it still shows no pre-cancerous growth I think I just want to monitor it closely and keep myself "together" as long as I can. I've read so many stories of the potential bad side effects I'd rather have what quality time I have left in the event this thing (the big C) ever shows up. I have no pain, no problems, went through an easy menopause, and just hate the thought of doing anything unnecessary that could have so many bad repercussions. Just hope I'm making the right decision. Any thoughts would sure be appreciated.
Thanks.

Just make sure you listen to your doctor. Dont make the mistake that I did.... thinking I knew everything and they just wanted to cut me open. No.. They know what is best. Listen to your doc. AND if they (always have more than one opinion) say it is OK not to have the surgery then you did what was best...... BUT if you have more than one doctor saying the same thing.... maybe it is time to do some soul searching and try to delve into what you might really be trying to hold on to. I say this, only b/c I know where you are coming from. And I tried to hold on a while....b/c I am 32 yrs. old with no kids. My hyperplasia w/ atipa turned out to be undetected cancer along the uterine wall- that was only found and caught in time because I stopped listening to my doubts and fears and started listening to the medical professionals. BUT LIKE I SAID- if you have a doc. who agrees that medicine is all you need - then by all means, wait until it is absolutely neccessary.
You will be in my prayers.
Take care!

I had hyperplasia for years - varying in the staging. I was told I should have a hysterectomy but chose to hold on and have biopsies on a regular basis. I also had D&Cs on occasion. By the time I had my surgery (for other reasons and post menopause) the hyperplasia had long since disappeared. So you just never know. The opinion of two doctors who think alike don't necessarily reflect the opinion of the majority. I agree you need to be cautious and make sure you have monitoring done but I also wouldn't be afraid to seek yet another opinion. The opinion that you should have a hysterectomy because your parts aren't doing anything for you anymore is an old fashioned position and there is much evidence that it isn't true.
