New here ~ advice please

Hi,

I am new to the website. I have a 12 week uterus, fibroids, which are not very large and 17mm thickening of the uterine wall. I have bleeding in between periods that can be very heavy, bothersome and last 5-7 days. I was given the option to wait until menopause or have a hysterectomy. I am 48 years old, have history of blood clots and am currently on a blood thinner. I will not be able to taken hormones. I have elected to have the surgery as the aching back and bleeding are disruptive in every day life. My doctor said I would have an abdominal hysterectomy. I just today learned of the vaginal. I intend to discuss that with my doctor as to why I was offered that option. The date is 2/21/2008 for the surgery. I feel good about having the surgery, but am confused on options. Any advice would be welcomed.

I can relate with some of what you r going through I just had a abdominal hysterectomy due to enlarged uterus and fibroids u may want to ckeck with yr dr but I could not have it done vaginally due to thr enlargement I almost had to have a vertical incision instead of a bikini cut all due to the size but mine was 14-16 weeks in sizel but that may be why he did nit give you that option.....I am now a little over one week post op and I am doing prety good just a little pain when walking and laying certaining ways but other than that I am diong good...good luck to you and my prayers and thoughts are with yoy!
