Should I or shouldn't I?
Ok! You know the friend that hasn't called me at all since before I had my surgery? (see my post "can anyone relate?") Well, about a week and a half ago she gave me an invitation for a combined birthday party for 2 of her kids that have birthdays just days apart. I already bought presents, I did that before my surgery so I wouldn't have to worry about it after. My kids would have so much fun because they are the same ages as hers. My question is....should I go? It has nothing to do with the fact that she hasn't called me. I'm just wondering if 12 days post op is too soon to go to a childrens birthday party. I told my husband that if we go, we won't stay for very long because sitting up for too long hurts(atleast is does now) and it's not like I can just stretch out on the couch with all the other guests there. I told my husband to get used to the idea of going without me. What do you think? Is 12 days post op too soon to go to a kids birthday party? I know my husband would look after the kids and I would be able to just sit the whole time. I just don't want to over do it, you know? Advice?

Should I or shouldn't I?
Well you almost answered your own question, if it husrts to sit up I think you shouldn't go. I am 12 days post op and I can sit up just fine, so I guess I am lucky in that aspect, thanks, you gave me a reason to be happy becasue it hurts to do about anything else. But if she is a good friend of yours you should be able to call her and explain that you need a place that you can sit and put your feet up and not have to worry about taking seats from other guests. Tell her how you feel and what your pain level is and she should be able to accomodate you and also make sure she understands that if you leave suddenly because your pain is too much she doesnt get her feelings hurt. I would definatly call her before hand.
Have fun and take care,

guage yourself...
hey, pas,
It bothers me still to sit 'up' for too long,.. I need to be in a reclined position. I went to a BBQ yesterday at a friend's house, and I was 11 days post-op. She accomodated me very well, and the other guests (although few) knew of my circumstances so I had sympathy points there. I was able to use her throw pillows for under my toosh in chairs, and behind my back, and I even used a chair to put my feet up with a pillow there too. I got up and walked peroidically, and moved to the sofa from time to time, but I did well,.. much better than I thought I would, and this was after stopping at Bi-Mart on the way. I had a WONDERFUL time,... BUT, we stayed WAY too long. Make sure if you go that when you decide it's time to go that you be firm about it,.... I quietly mentioned to DH several times, but he would easily get caught up in conversation again without purpose of course, but by the time we left we had been out & about for 5 hours... WAY too long, and although I took it VERY easy,... it was the first day I had decided to wear underwear,.. I've been going commando to ease any pressure on my incision and hadn't wanted to buy oversized ones... anyway, I sported one of my thongs that rides high enough on my tummy so as not to rub near my incision,.... what I'm getting at is all of the sudden my tummy started to HURT more so than it had when I previously wanted to go... my friend helped me undo the top of my short-alls, and we found that my swelly belly was angry at me indeed!! I had a crease running across where the top of my panties were and it was indenting into me big time!!
We hustled home, I got out of my clothes AND undies, and hopped into my loose PJs laid out on the sofa with 2 vicodin, an ice pack, and my feet piled up on several pillows,... I fell right to sleep, then am hour later got up, and freshened up for bed, and laid back down with a hot pad this time, my sleep mask, my extra pillows, and I konked out 'til dawn this morning!!
Anyway, just guage yourself, and listen to your body... only do what you want to, and for as long as you want to,.... if you want to go, but don't think you can stay then maybe just a pop in to say hello for a few minutes then leaving would be okay... would the kids be okay to stay there with them long enough for DH to run you back home, and then he could return so they wouldn't get upset at having to leave too soon? You know how kids are... that's part of why I tried to stick it out so long yesterday cuz my kids were having a total blast with their friends.
Call me if you wanna talk... I'm always here for ya',.. and best of luck in your decision. PS- did you see my 'story; on pre-op side? I finally posted it.

If you actually want to go, does she have a recliner? YOu might call and talk to her about that. 12 days is a bit early if you still hurt sitting up for very long. Hopefully if ou can' go your friend will understand.

It still hurts me too to sit up for very long and I'm about as far out as you. Have you talked to your friend yet, or is she still being rather a recluse? I agree it's a good idea to see if she has a recliner and then exercise your princessly powers and banish whoever's sitting in it to a straight back. I've been living in mine, went to a friend's house the other day and sat in hers, then a reclining lawn chair. That wasn't too bad either. Also, make sure you dress loose in case your swelly belly starts screaming and take your ibuprofen or drugs before you go, then bring extra just in case. Let your DH serve you the birthday cake, and don't let the kids climb on you!! Hopefully your friend will realize it's still you, even though part of your guts are missing, and lose her fear to interact with you!
Good luck,
Stacy

Should I or shouldn't I?
Thanks for your responses This friend of mine STILL has not called me.....but her husband calls almost everyday to see how I'm doing. I still have until Saturday to decide. I have a feeling I will go, because as you said Stacy, maybe she'll realize I'm still me even though some of my guts are missing I think I will just plan a short visit at the party and I'll just have to warn my kids ahead of time that they will only get to play for a short while. BUT, if I don't feel I should go when Saturday rolls around, then I'll send hubby and the kids without me.
