D&C w/ Ablation

I have it in 2 two weeks. On my birthday no less. I got a choice of a monday or Friday. I wanted Friday since it would be at the hospital I am more familiar with. But have to do so on a monday cause hubby is off and we have young ones that need care and I need a driver to and from surgery.

I'm super nervous about the whole ordeal. I have a d&c after a m/c years ago...but I do not recall the pain level...nor do I know anything about ablation. Can anyone tell me how it was for them? This is my stave off hysterectomy option.

Thanks.

Re: D&C w/ Ablation

Hi IrishWife

That's the same procedure I had two years before my hysterectomy (which was for fibroid-related pain).

For me, the pain was quite bearable. I used pain meds for a few days and then took ibuprofen regularly as prescribed to stay ahead of any pain, and it went well.

I felt kind of blah and achy for about a week and pretty much stayed home and took it easy. I did find that for a few weeks, if I was on my feet too long I would feel a bit swollen. I'm a slow healer, so my guess is that you'll do better than I did.

I had a thermachoice ablation, which works by superheating the uterine lining--essentially creating burning on the inside of the body. If you've ever had a bad sunburn, you'll know that it takes a few days for the feelings to settle down.

The ablation and D&C worked wonderfully for me. I was one of the lucky ones whose bleeding completely stopped.

Take it easy, follow doctor's orders, and be patient with yourself while your body recovers.

I hope it goes well for you!

Re: D&C w/ Ablation

I had an ablalation 2 summers ago. I too was so nervous about undergoing the procedure, but woke up feeling little to no pain. I was expecting worse. It was fast, stayed in hosp to rest for a ittle while, then went home and rested some more, just beause I was suppose to. But truthfully, period cramps are worse.
