Post-Op Dining

Hey sisters, I need some advise. My wonderful husband who is a fantastic cook wants to know what I should be eating the first week that I am home from the castle. Keeping in mind that I have IBS, I will need to be certain that what he prepares is high in fiber. What should he have on his shopping list, Ladies?

By the time I left the hospital, I was on a normal diet so I would say whatever you think you'll feel like eating and what you would need for your IBS. Friends of ours brought over homemade chicken and noodles the day after I came home and that was about all that appealed to me for the next 2-3 days. After that, I've been eating pretty much what I ate before.

Good luck on your surgery.

I'd say to eat what you would for your IBS. A word of caution about fiber--Make SURE it is accompanied by LOTS of fluids, or it can constipate...

My early post-op days...all I wanted was "comfort food". Breakfast was a bowl of Cheerios and an orange (high in fiber)...Lunch was grilled cheese sandwiches and soup....dinner was typicallly mashed potatoes, baked chicken, and a salad.

Do stay away from the gas producing foods....as in broccoli, beans, or any spicey foods. I also found red meat did not sit well with me early on. You will know what your body can tolerate, especially since you have IBS. For the fiber you need, make sure you have fruit in your diet.....apples, oranges, bananas.....
