Hi tonyjoy. Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the Mirena IUD. My neighbor who is close to my age, stated that she experienced horrible cramping from the IUD & had it removed, she no longer has the cramping & never had cramps previously. She was only using it as a form of birth control, but it was horrible for her too. So, glad you had it removed. Yeah, my doctor doesn't feel that I will get anymore uterine cramping that I already have....however...he is not me.....and I just do not think I can't take the other side effects & more of the cramping. Plus as you mentioned, the cost. My gyn told me the cost would be $600 and it my insurance won't cover it, as you mentioned. Do I have $600 saved up?? No, I would have to charge it and what if the IUD caused me more issues....would be be the $600. Anyhoo, we need to borrow $1500-$2000 to have a tree removed in our front yard. Part of it fell down in our neighbors yard & the road over the weekend due to the storm...and it is very unsafe, so it needs to be cut down by professionals. Really leaning back to my scheduled hyst. Again, thanks so much for posting, I really appreiciate it.

Hello I have had two mirena coils but I eventually needed to have TAH in February. The first one lasted for about five years. It stared to become ineffective and I had it removed. My body reverted very quickly back to heavy bleeding and pain. I had another fitted and even whilst it was inside me I experienced extreme pain and nausea. I had to go to bed for a few days each month. As I am on other medication the strongest pain killer I could take was paracetamol!! My initial diagnosis for my hyster was adenomyosis but after the op I was told that my uterus was stuck to my bowel with extensive adhesions. I have felt extremly well since my hyst I have no regrets about the decision to have the op. I am forty five with one child conceived after IVF. I wish you well with your decisions.

Bagpuss...thanks so much for replying. Sorry to hear that you had extreme pain the 2nd time around with the IUD. Yeah, at 49, you are 45...a few years difference....quality of life is important...and I have a gut feeling...that if I went & got the Mirena IUD, I would bet I would still have the uterine cramping. My main issue is the contractions. I get a period 2-3x per month, however my bleeding is only bad the 1-3 days, then it just continues to be brown for maybe 7 or more days after....however the crappy contractions and the bowel issues continue....as long as I am having contractions. So, glad that you are doing so well now. Good lord, uterus stuck to your bowel...ouch!! Then you had bowel issues with extensive adhesions. That is a thought of mine, that I might have, since the contractions are so bad. Just so glad that you have all of that behind you!!
I called my gyn today, spoke to the receptionist. Stated to schedule that LAVH asap. Someone is to call me back end of this week or next week to set up my surgery date. Apparently, there is one person that does this in their office. Original date was August 1st,.....but, I really don't want to wait any longer due to the pain. I want to enjoy some of the summer weather here on the east coast without be strapped to a heating pad, carrying motrin around...and looking like a puff-ball. They won't give me toratol, doesn't work as good as the motrin. Oh well, soon this will be behind me. Take care.
