How much bleeding after a TAH?

As much as I'm looking forward to getting the surgery, I have this feeling that, after surgery, I'm going to get one final BIG one.....is the bleeding anywhere near like when you give birth? (I doubt it, but it doesn't hurt to ask) I am so tired of pads I could scream! It would be so nice to walk around and not 'pick at your butt', if you know what I mean (sorry for being crude)! **LOL** Hey, well, those things DO shift around a lot, especially when you go to sit down! 'Nuff said on that topic, I guess! **G**

How much bleeding after a TAH?

Vina,I had a TAH and had no bleeding after my surgery. I'm not sure about the first 12 hours or so afterwards, because I was groggy, but from the time I got up to walk around, there wasn't even any spotting. Some women do have slight bleeding, but I don't think it comes close to after having had a baby.

How much bleeding after a TAH?

Vina, I also had a TAH & I bled just a little bit until I left the hospital on the 4th day after surgery. Haven't seen one spot of blood since and certainly don't miss it. No where near the amount after a baby....more like spotting. Keep those napkins just a bit longer, then you can do the bonfire thing!

How much bleeding after a TAH?

I also had TAH and I had no bleeding at all from the moment I left the hospital, definitely NOTHING like when I delivered each of my children. I had slight vaginal bleeding the first day or two while I was in the hospital, but my doctor used a vaginal drain, which was a tube going into the vagina and on the outside end it had a small bulb that collected the blood. The nurses would measure that blood and empty the bulb.

How much bleeding after a TAH?

I had a TAH on 9/12. I had some sort of catherer inserted in my vagina that was plastic with the container about the size of the palm of your hand. It never filled up completely and it stayed in for about 3 days. I wear panty liners for the yellow discharge I get. I have not bleed since they removed the catherer.

bleeding

Vina-
I will be having my TAH on Weds. This too was a concern of mine, I asked the DR. and she told me that I may bleed up to 6 wks. post-op, but that all it would require is a mini pad. She told me any more bleeding than that, and she would be concerned as something would have been wrong from the surgery.
Although I would really like if I didn't bleed at all, that little amount of blood I can handle.

How much bleeding after a TAH?

Vina - I had tah/bso 3/22 and did have some bleeding after surgery...took some pads to hospital with me. It turned to spotting when I got home and only lasted for about 1 week..and like Lisa, I haven't had any since then. I gave my left over pads to low income women..and or homeless shelter.

No bleeding at all, got a little discharge now that the stitches are dissolving on the vaginal cuff.

Waiting for the day to toss the diapers.....

Thanks, everyone, now it's just one less thing to worry about. I'm just hoping I don't get that vaginal catheter or whatever....I'm also gettting a bladder tack-up done, and it's bad enough to think of waking up with a catheter in THERE with bleeding to go with it! And maybe a drain through your stomach? Yuck! Someone told me sometimes they do that. And they want you to get out of bed? HOW? I can just imagine touring the hallway with everyone checking out my fancy pee-bag....how embarrassing! Wouldn't that be almost like walking around naked? *LOL*

Vina- you've hit my worst fear!

Vina,
I must confess, that you have hit upon my worst fear of the whole thing. Let me hurt, but I'll just DIE if my friends, church staff, etc. walk in and see a catheter bag! Yes, I know how you feel, and I've assigned my mother (she doesn't know it yet) to keep it covered. I'm taking my small throw blanket, double as pillow for the ride home, for the task. Ain't no way that I'll be walking down any hall with it - well, maybe it wouldn't look too odd to have that throw around my shoulder - uhhh - hopes it gone quick!!
