Hello everyone!

I have a question for any of you that have IC......I am starting to wean myself off of the bladder meds(elmiron, ditropan xl, atarax, and pyridium).....have any of you gone off the meds and have your IC symptoms come back?

I am going off of them because I have been IC symptom free since April and I am so tired of pills. At one point, I was taking 20 pills a day. After my blood clot scare, most likely caused by BCP's, I have made the decision to go off any meds I can. As I said in another post, I will soon be only on coumadin

Anyway, I just forgot to ask in my other post about this. I want to know what others have experienced. I am afraid of the IC symptoms coming back, but just soooooo want to be med-free!

Dear Pasdechat,

I don't know what you can expect stopping the drugs as I haven't had that problem ... But I just wanted to let you know that I hope it all works out well for you.

Best wishes for a smooth ride with your bladder/IC.

Hi there

Could I just offer a suggestion. Can you come off your medications one at a time and assess your IC symptoms before you stop another medication. You might find that one particular med is more effective than another but if you stop taking them all at once you'll never be able to identify it.

I could be way out of left field here in which case completely disregard this post, but it just struck me it maybe worth thinking about.

All the very best.

Pasdechat.... Silverfern has an excellent point. Maybe check with your doctor about stopping the meds one at a time... that way if one is really helping you will know which one.

That is sort of like how the uro suggested I test the bladder diet to see if any foods bothered my pelvic pain.... go off all the recommended foods, then gradually add them back in one at a time so you could see better which ones were the trigger.

I hope you are on your way to reducing your meds soon

Thanks everyone

Actually, my doctor wants me to stop them one at a time in a specific order. He wants me to stop the Ditropan last. He didn't tell me why, but maybe that's the reason......to see which ones I really might need still. I would think the Ditropan would be the most important one for me, but who knows. I didn't think of it in this way, so thanks for the suggestion. I'll be sure to pay close attention as I stop each med.
