Recovery time?

I'm new here -- surgery date is next month (abdominal hyst. scheduled for long-term fibroid problems). Just wondering -- how long should I expect to be in the hospital if all goes well? How much time off work? (Communications desk job -- no heavy lifting required!) I am so in the dark about these practical matters, and my consult is not till the 28th. Many thanks in advance!

Lisa

i can only speak for myself and from what i've read here.

my doctor said to plan on a few days in the hospital then, to plan on 6 weeks recovery for non-strenuous work. i have a desk job and wait tables, so i'm hoping to get back to the desk job btwn 4 and 6 weeks.

from this forum, i have learned that i might have to start back with half days as we may become easily fatigued. i've read 3 months to feel pretty darn good and up to a year to feel "normal".

personally i've been fatigued from anemia for at least 7 months and can't really remember what normal energy felt like.

i am having an abdominal hyst. i understand that a vaginal hyst takes less recovery since they don't cut that abdominal muscle.

i'm a little afraid of the length of recovery time myself, but i know after it's all said and done i'll be happier and healthier.

this is my back to health year. have a mammogram scheduled five weeks after for a troublesome lump.

hope this helped.

health and happiness to you

Recovery time?

Hi Lisa- I was in the hospital 3 days. My doc says 5-6 week full recovery time. My orders when I left the castle, was complete rest the first week, no bending or lifting. Week 2 I could be a passenger in the car to either go to dinner or a movie. Week 3 I could drive by myself, but really no full work until about week 5.

The recovery period really does play with your mind. I am 10 days post-op and feeling pretty good. But today I am tired .Just don't overdue anything.

Good luck to you, my thoughts are with you.
