Anyone freaking out about urodynamic test?

I am so worried about this stupid test that I am having tummy troubles and my left eye will not stop twitching! Not worried about any pain but it is triggering panic about past sexual abuse. I thought I dealt with all of that but I don't know how to handle this. I have my test on Monday. I keep telling myself that I can do this but I am not so sure

Re: Anyone freaking out about urodynamic test?

I'm sorry about your panic and your prior abuse. (((HUGS)))

Not sure what your urological issues are, but if you are nervous about the test, have you discussed alternatives with your doctor?

I was having some urgency and pain on emptying before my hysterectomy. We thought it was probably related to my adenomyosis, but we weren't sure. Rather than send me to urogyno ahead of time, they decided to do a cystoscopy after the hysterectomy while I was still under anesthesia. They decided if they saw anything bad at that point, they could refer me to urology (thankfully, everything looked fine!), but rather than put me through another procedure, they just rolled it into the hysterectomy and I got to sleep through the whole thing!

Since they did the cystoscopy at the end, they took out the catheter while I was under so I woke up with none of that. Really confused/freaked out the nurse the next morning that my toilet seat was blue (I think she initially blamed the cleaning staff in her head), until I peed and she saw it was my urine and it was the dye from the cystoscopy. LOL!

Re: Anyone freaking out about urodynamic test?

Hi,

I'm so sorry. I had the urodynamics test done. It's definitely not my favorite experience, but I had 2 really excellent nurses in the room and we just ignored the test and chatted about summer and upcoming concerts to get my mind off of the unpleasantness.

It's really not the kind of test you can be put out for because you have to be able to control your bladder and communicate with the nurses.

Does your doctor know your fears? Are there any other alternative tests he / she could use? or maybe give you some type of anti-anxiety medication to give you some relief from your nerves but leave you still able to function.

If not, I'll be honest, it's a little embarassing, but the staff are very careful to touch you as little as possible and there's more than one person in the room. It's done as professionally as possible.

Good luck!

Re: Anyone freaking out about urodynamic test?

Thanks for the insight. I went for the ultrasound today. I was perfectly fine. The tech was so great.....talked the whole time. I think the thought of these tests are so much worse than the procedures. I have to have this done as my 'parts' are falling out! I will be having bladder sling and hyst.
Peace
