2019: Lavh recommended for enlarged uterus and fibroids? Also looking into UFE. (2019)

Hello Ladies, My doctor recommend Laparoscopic vaginal Hysterectomy for enlarge uterus and fibroids. Does anyone on here ever has that kind of procedure that could offer some information please? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I had my laparoscopic hysterectomy on 9/24 for enlarged uterus and multiple fibroids. One of which was over a golf ball size. I am a kindergarten teacher, so I took 5 weeks off. I struggled with heavy bleeding for a few years, and the last 6 months I bled almost continuously causing me to go tot the ER multiple times, and I also became anemic. I tried other options and was on several medications before deciding on a hysterectomy. My regret is that I didn’t have the hysterectomy sooner. Wishing you the best as you decide which route to take.

Thank you for your response. I have several large fibroids and heavy bleeding as well. I’m glad to hear that the hysterectomy is a good option. Again thank you!

Another option is UFE. This is a radiologist procedure that addresses heavy bleeding from fibroids. Bleeding stops and fibroids slowly begin to shrink. Mine has reduced in size by about 90% and I never bled profusely again. This is performed outside the ob/GYN speciality. Interventional Radiology has taken on fibroids very successfully making it possible to avoid major surgery. I highly recommend this as a first step to fibroid resolution.

My uterus was huge from a 9 cm fibroid and I suffered from inflammation due to the fibroid’s toxicity. About 3 year after I was embolized my uterus was examined by a very good doctor who said it was normal in size. This may have occurred earlier but I avoided doctors for awhile as I had had enough of them. Shrinking happens gradually so not sure of the timeline but it is still normal now. I couldn’t believe it either but it is nature’s way to heal once a problem has been resolved.

I had very large fibroids (added up to 2lbs) and had a vaginal hysterectomy on July 24. Honestly, it was the best thing I’ve ever done. The recovery will require you to be patient, but it’ll save you so much discomfort in the end. Please let me know if you have any questions...I’m happy to help!

I had a laparoscopic vaginal hysterectomy three years ago for fibroids and other issues. My periods had always been irregular, heavy, and very painful. The reason I went to see my doctor in the first place was a period lasting several months. My doctor offered the hysterectomy, or D&C to remove the fibroids. I went with the hysterectomy because I wanted the solution to be permanent. I have been so glad I did! It’s been lovely not having a week every month where I feel like I can’t do anything because of pain from “cramps.” Recovery wasn’t easy for me (and a slight prolapse did get worse). But the worst part was being so tired! The pain wasn’t bad after the first few days, but I was exhausted for weeks. If you do it, my best advice is to take more time than you think you need, and make sure you’re getting enough rest! I jumped back into things too soon after the pain went away, and ended up being run down and exhausted for longer than if I’d rested thoroughly in the first place.
