Had Pre-Op Physical this morning - High Blood Pressure
I run the chance of having my surgery next Monday cancelled because of high blood pressure. The Dr. has put me on meds. this morning to bring it down but whether these pills can effectively bring it down to a safe level before next Monday remains to be seen. I have never had to go on blood pressure medication before and so this was a total shock. Attribute it to too much eating over the holidays, having family in the house visiting over the holidays, tearing the house apart this past week to get it in good shape before my date at the castle, nerves about surgery and worrying about arrangements for my children after my surgery. What a nightmare its going to be reschedule care for my kids if I have to go this route. Has anyone ever been in this situation before? Dr. told me to relax this week - yeah right.

If you don't take it easy you will run the risk of not having the surgery, So why not just listen to Dear DR. I have high blood pressure and have been on meds for it. If you were put on meds, it should be fine by the time your ready to go........Good Luck..........

Had Pre-Op Physical this morning - High Blood Pressure
My blood pressure is ALWAYS elevated at the doctor's office. My doctor told me that many people have an elevated reading under those circumstances. However, when I became pregnant, he was more concerned about it. What I did was buy a home blood pressure cuff. I monitored my blood pressure and home. Guess what? It was always normal when I took it. At the doctor's office it was high.
I don't know what your reading was, but maybe if you checked it at home when you were feeling relaxed it would be much lower. Just make sure you follow the doctor's orders. If he says relax, try and relax. Watch some movies to take your mind off things.
I understand what a pain it would be to reschedule everything. I am going in on January 7th for a TAH. I have made many preparations for things to run smoothly while I'm gone.
Good luck to you.

Me Too
I have high blood pressure too and if they have you on meds for it now, you should be just fine by next week. And I am sure a lot of it is the stress you are under.....maybe a nice bath and some relaxing music will help....
Take care

Had Pre-Op Physical this morning - High Blood Pressure
I had my pre-op uneventfully for my myomectomy 3 years ago only to be called back to the doctor's office that afternoon about my blood pressure. The doctor had reviewed everything later and noticed how high it was and wanted it rechecked. It was still that high. They made note of it, but didn't treat it. Everything went fine for surgery - guess they took care of it during surgery.
Since then I've had to go on blood pressure medicine and if you're at all close to the right dose for you, you'll be fine. Mine can be 170/110 if I don't take my medicine only to have it 120/80 after I do - big difference. I'd get it checked a few times between now and then if you can and let 'em know if its not dropping too much...perhaps they could adjust your medicine once more on Friday or something. My surgery is Monday as well and I'm definitely planning to be sure that that pill is ok to take that morning - otherwise I expect I'd have the same worries!
Sure hope it works out for you!

Had Pre-Op Physical this morning - High Blood Pressure
Thanks to all you ladies who supported me over this blood pressure dilemna I'm in. I'm feeling a little more optimistic tonight since you all seem to think that the little pill will kick in before operation time next Monday. The drug she prescribed is called Ramipril and I'm sure some of you are probably familiar with it. The literature that came along with it says that it might take a month to two months to become effective so this is what is worrying me. My reading today, taken twice, was 170/100 whereas a few months ago it was in the 130/90 vicinity. What a surprise. I am going to force myself to relax too and hopefully the situation will improve. Civilgal, great advice about making sure it doesn't drop down too low and I will probably check it out Thursday or Friday or so. My experience with b.p in the past during surgical procedures has been that it drops really low; almost to a dangerous level so I certainly don't want it dropping below 120/80.
