Fleet question

Hello Ladies!

I'm feeling very prepared for my day on Tuesday (thanks to all of you here) but I have a question about the Fleet enema.
It says on the box that it will take effect in 1-5 min but I'm wondering how long I'll be on the toilet for?? I just don't want to cut myself short on time since we have to leave the house no later than 6:30 AM and I'll have to get up very early to give me enough time for the enema.... but how much time, lol! I'd hate to have an accident on the way to the hospital!!

Thankyou all so much!

Fleet question

Good question! I'm curious about that as well.

Does your Dr. have you doing the Fleet the morning of surgery?

My Dr. has me doing the whole "bowel prep" thing on Monday (day prior to surgery) - nothing but clear liquids all day, magnesium citrate at noon, fleet at 7pm and again at 10pm if the first one didn't work. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight (not even water or gum). I understand that is common bowel prep for colonoscopy as well. But it seems not all Drs. require it for hysto.

BTW, my surgery is scheduled for Tuesday also. My check in is 5:30 AM for a 7:30 surgery.

Fleet question

I had the whole bowel prep thing to. Is the magnesium citrate the same thing as the Fleet PhosPho Soda (sp)? That stuff was pretty gross, but it really cleans you out. By the time you are doing the enema there will not be much left. You will probably be able to tell how much time you need when you do the nightime enema. I think I allowed at least 30 minutes the morning of for the whole process and that was plenty of time. Good Luck and Best of Wishes and Speedy Recovery!

Fleet question

I too am have mine on Nov. 8. Tomorrow only clear liquids all day then Fleet enema in the p.m. Guess I should be grateful that I don't have to dring anything terrible too! I have never done an enema before and am nervous about it.

Fleet question

I only had to do the Fleet enema the night before for my hyst, but I've had to do the phospho soda preps at other times. The enema is Much, Much easier than the preps that you drink.

My experience was that it worked pretty quickly, and that I was in and out of the bathroom for about an hour or so.

Tips: lubricate the tip of the tube with KY or other water soluble lubricant; have a package of baby wipes next to the toilet (much more soothing than TP if you're going a lot); bring something to read!

Good luck!
s,
-Linda
