I'm nervous help!!
Hi all, I have my surgery this Friday Dec. 9th, I'm not sure what time yet. I suppose to get a call from the hospital on Thursday. I have been so scared about having this done. I have never had major sugery or put to sleep. I keep having these bad thoughts about something happening. Has anyone had thoughts like that? I'm having my uterus and cervix taking out (abdominal). This waiting is killing me. I don't know what I can do to ease my anxiety, any suggestions

Nervous also
I am also scheduled for abdominal hyst. (keeping ovaries) on Thursday, Dec. 8th. I am also nervous about anesthesia - not waking up. I'm trying to be as informed as possible through this site, accomplish as much around home as possible and enjoy time with my family 3 kids (2 in college, 1 in middle school). I have a sister who has been through this and she has eased my mind quite a bit. In talking to many friends all have assured me I will be feeling so much better in the long run and that is what is keeping me calm. Help at home is a must! Hope all goes well!

I'm nervous help!!
The waiting is the hardest part! Take things one step at a time and try not to get to overwhelmed!
I am now 4 weeks post op and can honestly say that this is the best thing that I have ever done for myself. The post op pain wasn't too terrible and the pain meds that they gave me were great. I was walking around the night of my surgery and went home on post op day three.
I cannot believe that so much time has passed and how much I worried and was a nervous wreck beforehand.
I didn't find this wonderful site until after surgery.
Please know that we are all here to support you through this time. The advice that you will receive here is truly the best. We all understand what you are going through.
Just think, by this Saturday, it will all be done and overwith.
Listen to your doctor, but most importantly listen to your body. Rest alot, take short walks, and drink plenty of fluids.
Sending you a big !

I'm nervous help!!
Hi!
I'm right with you on being nervous. This is my first major surgery too. I haven't had any bad thoughts about something happening, I'm more worried about recovery and hope I have no problems. The ladies here are great and they say the waiting is the hardest part.
I was told by the ladies here to make lists of things to do to help ease my anxiety. It helped calm me down and organize. Also, take some deep breaths.
I wish you the best on Friday!
Take care,
Laurie

I'm nervous help!!
Hi Nessaw36,
I feel the same way! I have a lot of anxiety about being put to sleep. It is also my first surgery. I have this vision of them putting that mask over my nose and mouth, and me freaking out and snatching it off and running out of the hospital! I am sure it will be fine though. Everything I have read says that is normal to feel this way before a surgery.I try to do things to distract myself like reading, watching movies (no hospital movies), and hanging out with family and friends. Good luck and you will be in my prayers!

ladys you will all be fine,
write lists of things you need to do before going into hosp, and what you need to take in.
also jobs for dh to do and children , spring clean the home , these are all things that helped me , while waiting. and maybe now is the time in getting those all important fruit and veggies, in preperation as ur body is going to need alot of iron and vitamins.
and irish30 all the best for tommorow i will be thinking of you hugs to you . and all of you waiting my love is with you .xxx

old hand at surgery!!
Having my hysterectomy will be my...let me see..I think my tenth surgery for all this mess, but as of december 13th this all goes bye bye!! My cervix has fallen and it can't get up!! I have all the familiar aches and pains that you guys do... and like alot of you, I'm only 35!! Here's some tips and knowledge for surgery...Make sure you ask them to give you something for sickness when you come out of anetesia...you DO NOT want to puke with those stitches in your belly...take a stuffed animal or get anything soft to cough into...sometimes the oxygen in your throat and nose makes you cough....and that HURTS!! You will be put to sleep through an IV the gas mask is only in the movies! But my best advice is ask your Doc for a little "cocktail" before going into surgery...this sends you into la la land so you don't get scared going into actual surgery...I don't like watching them prep me..into I go to a very happy place...The people going into surgery with you will love it, cuz you get really loopy and slap happy!! immediately when you wake up in the recovery room, start to ask for you pain meds, cuz the pain you'll be feeling is raw pain from your surgery, and you don't need to feel that!
Well I wish US all luck, let's keep in touch before and after our surgeries
What a great site!!

I'm nervous help!!
Thank you all for the kind words and for your stories!! I'm going to take everyones suggestions and try and relax as much as I can. Pjl, I wish you a continued speedy recovery and everyone else you all will be in my prayers and thoughts as well. I'm glad my mom is coming on Friday to be here to help with my family, that eases my mind a lot, so she along with my family will take good care of me. Chocolatetye10, your vision made me laugh, I know exactly how you feel, I have thoughts like that too. I feel like I have so much to do before Friday. My mom and husband are telling me not to worry about things around the house, but I still keep coming up with things to do. I guess, I need to relax as much as possible. I'm going to pack tonight and put my bag in my car so I don't have to worry about that at least.

I'm nervous help!!
Nessaw36, my surgery is on 12/9, too...not my first ever, tho'. Everyone's experience with anesthesia is different, but for me it goes like this: I say bye-bye, go to sleep and about two seconds (to me) later I wake up in the recovery room! I think they have made great advances in anesthesia medications in the past decade or so, and it's much easier on you now than before. I have had several surgeries under general anesthesia and have woken up every time, and my guess is you will, too! It's hard not to be anxious. When you go for your procedure, tell them you are anxious (if you are), and they may be able to give you something to calm your nerves. Every facility is different, but they really want it to go as smooth as possible for you. Best of luck to you, I bet everything will turn out just fine!

I'm nervous help!!
A week before my surgery, my doctor prescribe me xanax to help with my anxiety. and boy, that really helped. So when my surgery finally came I was so relax it was unreal. I only needed the xanax for that week it help so much. Im sure if you ask your doctor he shouldn;t have a problem calling that in for you. So by the time I got my IV placed in at the time of my surgery and got the "happy juice" I woke up saying what "HYSTERECTOMY". smile, you in my prayers.
