Bio-identical - how

I'm considering bio-identical hormones but my doctor does not discuss menopause, he pretty much tells me its normal and I should just deal with it. I don't even know where to
start to investigate.
I'm in menopause and lately I've noticed times I find my breathing seems to change, quicker breaths closer together. My breaths just seem faster, it doesn't normally last long but now that I'm aware of it, it bothers me and I wonder if this is something I should be concerned with. I am having more hot flashes these days and occasional headaches too. I hear other ladies here talk about faster heart rates and I'm wondering if this is what I'm experiencing and I just notice my breathing faster. I'm 50 years old and 5 years ago I had a TAH leaving right ovary. Can bio-identical hormones help with this and how do I start if my doctor isn't helping me along.

Thank-you Ladies Trish x0

Hello, Trish! to Hyster Sisters!

I've moved your post here to the Natural Menopause forum where you'll be able to get support and input from others who still have one or both ovaries.

If you need to find a doctor who is familiar with prescribing bio-identical hormones, you may want to do what has worked for many women on this site. Find a compounding pharmacy near you and call to ask which doctors use their services. If you don't know where the closest compounding pharmacy is, you can use the free locator feature of this site: www.iacprx.org.

Let your doctor know about the breathing patterns you have noticed, as well as the other symptoms you're having. Your doctor can help determine the cause.

I hope this helps!

Hello BlushingBlond,

I'm so sorry to hear that your doctor is so insensitive to your concerns. I bet if he had erectile dysfunction, he wouldn't "just deal with it." You know darned well he'd be taking viagra.

Yes menopause is a natural part of life, but we have the science to live better lives during this process. Before my hysterectomy, I was experiencing mild to moderate perimenopausal symptoms. Hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, anxiety, panic attacks, afternoon fatigue, dry skin and eyes. Since my hysterectomy, along with the above symptoms, I feel like I have brain fog all day long. I found a naturopathic doctor in my area. I plan on using bio identical hormones. I will let you know how things go. You can find naturopathic doctors in your area by going to the following websites; www.naturopathicassoc.ca & www.cand.ca . I hope that helps. There is a book I would strongly recommend; Natural Hormone Balance for Women by Uzzi Reiss. Another book is Dr. John Lee's Hormonal Balance Made Simple. The more you educate yourself, you can make better decisions for your health. Because as you can see, a lot of these doctors pay lip service to being attentive to womens health issues. Best wishes to you, you're on the right track.

Thanks so much. I will definately check out these sites and look for that book. When I'm having a good day, which I am today and yesterday but Monday was terrible with constant hot flashes, anxiety, headaches and whenever I go through this my digestive system takes a turn for the worst which is normally a result of the migraine type headache....not fun.
Can I ask, are you Canadian and if so where are you from? Midland Ontario here.
Thanks a bunch for the information. Trish

No, I'm not Canadian. I am from California as in Los Angeles, Hollywood and Disneyland. I have been to Canada and I loved it. It's absolutely beautiful and very clean. We drove in through New York, saw Niagara Falls, of course. Went through the Ontario Providence and came out through Michigan. What beautiful countrysides we saw.

Okay, I have an update. I saw my naturopathic doctor. I spent 2 hours answering questions about health issues, (it was exhausting.) I paid $150 bucks. I was supposed to bring back my thyroid/cholesterol/blood sugar panel back along with pap smear results in two weeks. So I go back to my gyn and I tell him that I saw a naturopathic doctor because I want bio identical hormones instead of estrogen from a pregnant mare. He says "I'll write you a prescription for anything you want." He tells me to go the pharmacist and tell him my symptoms, the pharmacist will call my gyn and tell him what to write and ta da! I have a natural compounded prescription. Sure would of been nice to know before I threw 150 bucks down the toliet! Oh well...in the end I got what I wanted...bio identical hormones. I'll give ya all an update on how they make me feel.
