8 days post hysterectomy, cramps and lower back pain

I’m 8 days post op today and I’m having A lot of cramping and lower back pain, is this normal?

It's pretty typical, and a lot of Sisters experience both. Lower back pain is often from (subconsciously) using our backs more to compensate for our tender abs. Reclining to spread your weight across your hips and shoulders / upper back relieves that tension, and a heating pad can sooth the soreness.

Our cells release prostaglandins wherever there is inflammation: they caused our old menstrual cramps and they contribute to digestive cramps, which can feel a lot like our old menstrual cramps. Foods rich in magnesium can help - dark leafy greens, dark chocolate, nuts and seeds - or a magnesium supplement. Be sure you're drinking plenty of water, too. Also, check your activities. If you've been standing, sitting upright or walking more, you may be doing more than your body is ready to handle, and that can trigger inflammation in the area where all those internal incisions are. Resting more than doing is what helps healing. Walking is a good activity for both digestive movement and to lower the risk of blood clots, but don't overdo it.

What I also suggest for the cramping is to avoid foods high in sugar alcohols, whose stimulant effect can aggravate cramping; that includes apples, pears, plums and prunes, apricots, cherries, peaches, and sweeteners ending in itol. For your back pain, if you are spending more time reclining or lying on your back, a small pillow under the curve in your lower back can help. What I also recommend for fast relief is capsaicin, the chemical compound that puts the heat in hot peppers; just add a pinch of cayenne pepper to your favourite moisturizer, and rub it in where it hurts.
