A few questions

I will be having my pre-op on October 19th. at which point I will be getting the specifics on my surgery scheduled for the 25th. At this point, all I know is he is planning on vaginal (ovaries are still up for negotiation), "total pelvic reconstruction" to quote the doc and he mentioned a sling for my bladder. My uterus is severly prolapsed.

So, my questions. We live in a 2nd floor apartment, are stairs going to be a problem?

Is the abdomen still very sensitive with vaginal or is that more for abdominal?

Because we intend to buy a house and don't want to move a bed we sleep on a queen size air mattress on the floor, will this be a problem?

Mom will be here to help for three weeks which I love. I have mentioned to friends that offered meals to wait til mom goes home, does that seem sensible? What other help might I ask for?

A few questions

Go up the stairs slowly one at a time with help. You'll probably be staying in your apartment for the first week or so. You will be fine with your Mom there for three weeks. The problem that I see is the air mattress on the floor. It's difficult enough getting out of bed the first week, let alone trying to get up from the floor. Can you sleep on a couch? Best wishes!

A few questions

Stairs, BE CAREFUL. I would have had a hard time getting up and down off of an air matress would have been hard for me. I had a laproscopic supracervical hysterectomy. Small incisions in abdomen, removal of only uterus. Let anyone that wants to help you, help. Very sensible to ask others to wait till mom goes home to bring meals will still need help and rest. Lots of hugs, best wishes.

A few questions

These are good questions and really need to be directed toward your surgeon. Your case may not apply to anyone else's experience here. Your sugeon knows what procedure, suture material, your tissue condition, etc that will be unique to you.

A few questions

My Dr. said that stairs are no problem as long as you take it slow. They will not hurt you or pull anything. I have a waterbed and figure I'll never be able to get in and out of it either. My bedroom is up 13 stairs so I'll have no choice. No sleeping downstairs for me. Too much always going on with teens and puppy!!
Good Luck to you!!

A few questions

Best wishes! Having your mom for three weeks will be a major help! Ask your dr about stairs--different drs say different things depending on you and your surgery. I was told no stairs and since we live in a two story house, my DH had to carry me up and down. Others were told to take it slow. And some were advised to take them backward.

I think the air mattress is going to be a problem! Can you rent a bed--I know you can rent hospital beds and for church functions we have rented beds. Getting down onto the mattress and up off of it with it being on the floor is going to be very uncomfortable!

A few questions

Take the stairs slowly and carefully, especially when you are descending them. There is no way I would have tried to get up from an air mattress. You'll want to sleep in a comfortable bed that will be easy for you to get in and out of, so you might want to borrow or rent one--maybe buy an inexpensive bed frame.

You may have some slight discomfort in the abdominal area. Remember you'll have plenty of internal stitches that need to heal.

What others might offer you'll really appreciate--offers to clean the apartment. And, if you feel up to it, a little bit of company. Recuperation time can be very boring. If you don't feel up to visitors, short telephone conversations will be appreciated.

Good luck to you!

A few questions

Thanks for the input ladies. I asked my dr about the bed and he said it would be no problem. Hubby and I have discussed this and we think I will sleep in my daughter's twin bed. That can be our back up plan in case I can't get in or out of the air mattress.
